Using dropbox to store sensitive information

Hi.... I'm interested in building a website that would store very confidential information, such as credit card numbers, passwords, etc.

Instead of spending thousands (possibly tens of thousands) on a custom system that is secure, would it make sense to rely on Dropbox?  So -- instead of storing my users confidential information on my own database, wouldn't it make more sense to sync up to Dropbox and store the data there on a per-user basis?  Each user would basically have to create a Dropbox account at which point we'd retrieve that data directly from their dropbox, then close all connections.

Does that even make sense?  :|

Hi, thanks for the post! Dropbox offers an API you can use to upload and download arbitrary files, and while Dropbox of course works to maintain a high level of security, ultimately the decision to use Dropbox (or not) for any particular scenario is up to you as the developer. We can't provide general legal or security advice, so it may be helpful to consult with a lawyer or security professional.

Do any of the developers in the community have additional thoughts or examples of how they've addressed this?
