Dropbox corrupts Windows 10 Start Menu

Dropbox keeps corrupting my Windows 10 start menu after a few days. The symptom it creates is folders pinned to the start menu no longer close the start menu when clicked. The only solution to fixing this I find is to uninstall Dropbox. I then reinstall Dropbox and everything works fine for a few days until Dropbox corrupts the start menu again. So, I need to continually uninstall and reinstall Dropbox to keep my Start Menu working properly.

Thanks for the update on this, JCplusULTRA.

It seems that you're running a beta version of the app, which is experimental, so that might be causing this.

Can you turn off the "early releases" option here and then simply reinstall the app and see if that helps?

I have been struggling wish this for a year or  two. I had no clue Dropbox was the cause. Seemingly random things (installing a new user, running CCleaner) seemed to fix it but it then came back and those were not repeatable. I had installed the start button to my middle button so I could close the menu.

I removed the context menu  with a context menu editor, rebooted and now it seems to be gone.

The general advice on these kind of issues seem to be: install updates, run sfc /scannow, if does not work then reinstall everything.

If the fix does not work I'll have to just stop using Dropbox and find other methods to do things like transfer my photosfrom the phone to the PC.

Hey JCplusULTRA, thanks for joining our Community.

Quite a strange issue here, but let's see what we can find out.

Does closing the Dropbox app also stop this issue or only uninstalling it?

Also, if you hover over the Dropbox icon in your system tray, what's the sync status and version of the app?

Let me know and we'll go from there.

Closing Dropbox does not fix the issue. It resolves right after uninstalling, even without reboot.

Status is up to date, and I'm constantly running the latest version due to constantly uninstalling, reinstalling. 178.3.4676

A Google search on this issue shows others have had this same problem since 2019.
