Hello Team,
On Ubuntu 16.04 every time I start my PC, I'm greeted by the message 'In order to use Dropbox, you must download the proprietary daemon'.

I got it to work for my Ubuntu 20.04 LTS workstation.
At the command line, run 'dropbox start -i'. The '-i' says to install the daemon if its not installed.
Reboot, login, and you should see a Dropbox icon in the System Tray. (I'm running Cinnamon for my desktop environment.)
Click on that Dropbox icon and you should see the things you can do.
Other things you can do at the command line: run 'man dropbox'.
