IT'S FIXED!!! At least for me and my Pixel 6A it is.
I had uninstalled all the office apps figuring I had to use Google's (which I was resisting because Sheets can't handle complex charts). My husband had just gotten a new Pixel 9Pro and magically he could open Excel from DB, so I installed it and gave it another try - and it worked! It looks like the problem (as many of us had figured out) was a permission that wasn't properly being passed between the two, but this time I was asked for the appropriate things and it all is as it should be. FINALLY.
Give it another shot, maybe. I've got Android 15 with whatever version of Excel, Word, and PPT that MS is shoveling out in Feb 2025.

Nope, still isn't working. At least not on my Pixel 9 with Android 15.
