Unable to open Excel files on Android Dropbox mobile app - Office login loop
Hi, I have a free dropbox account and have used it for years to store a few basic excel spreadsheets that I use daily. I have a paid Microsoft 365 account that I use on my android phone and lenovo laptop. For some reason the last few days, I am unable to open my dropbox excel spreadsheets on my phone. When I try to open the spreadsheet I get a log in page saying "Log in or sign up to Dropbox to link with Microsoft Office Integration". I log in using my dropbox user and pw and it just sends me to my onedrive. I have tried deleting the dropbox and 365 apps on my phone and re installing and logging in. I have tried to open the dropbox files by going into excel first and then trying to open the dropbox spreadsheet. Just always sends me to the log in page.
It all works fine on my laptop, and after saving, my dropbox android app shows the newly updated spreadsheet. Dont know what has happened. Please help.

So after all of this and after all this back and forth, Dropbox support has failed to inform everyone here that it's a known problem and they're working on it. I don't know why they wouldn't have just said this from the very beginning instead of asking everyone to repeat the same circular questions that get them no further along than they already are with this issue... Here's an email directly from their support team:
Hello,
Thank you for your reply, and I appreciate your patience as we work through this together.
Dropbox engineers are aware of the problem and are working on a solution however this is a know issue in within Microsoft as they tend to break this functionality somewhat regularly
Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

This was the last communication I received from Dropbox support...they're basically passing the blame to Microsoft and saying they don't know how to fix it. The interesting part is that it was working (and continues to do so) flawlessly on my older Pixel phone until I switched to my new(er) Pixel phone.

Hello there,
Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately, the issue you're experiencing with accessing Excel files via the mobile app is related to Microsoft’s integration.
Microsoft provides an in-app Dropbox storage location within the Office app, and some users are encountering issues with its functionality.
We have informed Microsoft about this matter.
I apologise that I’m unable to provide a more favourable resolution.
I hope this information helps, however if there is anything more I can do to assist you, please let me know and I would be more than happy to help. - Trijntje D.New member | Level 2
IT'S FIXED!!! At least for me and my Pixel 6A it is.
I had uninstalled all the office apps figuring I had to use Google's (which I was resisting because Sheets can't handle complex charts). My husband had just gotten a new Pixel 9Pro and magically he could open Excel from DB, so I installed it and gave it another try - and it worked! It looks like the problem (as many of us had figured out) was a permission that wasn't properly being passed between the two, but this time I was asked for the appropriate things and it all is as it should be. FINALLY.
Give it another shot, maybe. I've got Android 15 with whatever version of Excel, Word, and PPT that MS is shoveling out in Feb 2025.

Nope, still isn't working. At least not on my Pixel 9 with Android 15.
