Our favourite Community member tips 2022

Here on the Dropbox Community Forum, there’s nothing we love more than seeing our Community members taking the time to post and share some tips and tricks to their fellow members! Whether it’s a tip on how to get the most out of your space, a workaround for an issue caused by your OS or simply sharing your knowledge of Dropbox, it really warms our hearts to see you guys help each other out.

So, to celebrate the end of another year in the Dropbox Community Forum, here are some of our favourite Community member tips from 2022.

Short on space?

Don’t worry, User30 knows exactly what you need. Sometimes, the most simple tricks are the most effective.

"If you are short of space on dropbox and are using it to archive data files, it is recommended that you zip the archive files to save on space consumed.

This will help you archive more data, especially if you are using the limited store versions on dropbox."

Have you used the email to Dropbox option?

This is what symakhan asked the Community back in October. After getting some feedback and doing some research of their own, they came back to the Community a couple of weeks later with some great content to help other members. You can read the full thread here.

"Hello Everyone Last week, I asked the group for feedback about Dropbox. In return, I got some great tips and tricks that I would have never known otherwise. Likewise, I gathered the following data while conducting some online research, and I figured it might be helpful to someone else with the same inquiry.

The email to dropbox feature is an amazing way of syncing files between two locations. It allows you to send any file directly to your Dropbox account from your email, making it very convenient and helpful when you urgently need a document or file. After sending the email, Dropbox will ensure that the file lands in the correct folder within your account. It’s a great way of keeping your files organized and secure while also providing an easy way to share files with others."

Printing lists of files directly from Dropbox

Recently, cengelma was trying to figure out how to print lists of files directly from Dropbox. Thankfully, they shared exactly how to do it with this cool and easy to use workaround for anyone else trying to do the same!

"I've been trying to figure out if there is a way to print a list of files in a Dropbox folder.  Turns out there is no such printing option. However, if you select all files with Ctrl + A, all subfolders and files will be selected.  Then using Ctrl + C, copy to the clipboard.  Next open a new blank Word document and paste (Ctrl +V) to the Word page.  All text should appear from the Dropbox webpage. Delete whatever text is not relevant and you'll be left with a list of folders and files."

Put an end to automatic scrolling

Earlier in the year, a couple of members reported issues with automatic scrolling taking them to the bottom of their page.  Lucky for us, stromther was on hand to identify the issue and let us know exactly how to stop it happening. You can see more here.

"I had to jump through way too many hoops to figure out how to fix this myself, so I'm leaving my solution in this chain for David6162 & anyone else that comes looking for answers in the future.

Goto: Settings > General Management > Samsung Keyboard Settings > Suggest text corrections > Manage apps ; once there you can disable which apps Grammarly will try to check for you (in this case you should look for Dropbox). Bear in mind you will still have access to standard Samsung autocorrect after disabling this so spellchecking shouldn't be an issue after disabling this."

Looking for files?

Back in June @Jose_Jimenez shared some great knowledge for people who were having trouble locating files, amongst many other things. You can see all of Jose’s contributions here.

"Back on the deleted files thing, If you are missing files there are some things to check:

Deleted files page https://www.dropbox.com/deleted_files. If you see your files here, you can use the Restore button to recover them. If you permanently delete files NOBODY can recover them. Also, deleted files are not counted against your space, so if you permanently delete them it will make no difference in space.

Events page https://www.dropbox.com/events. You can see things like deletions, additions, and other events here. You can try to restore events and files here too.

Shared page https://www.dropbox.com/share/folders. This is in case your files were shared and have been removed from your account."

Community members helping each other out is what makes this Community great and we are so appreciative for each and every one of your comments! Whether you’re a brand new member or one of our Super Users, your opinions and contributions are valued and we want to say a big thank you to everyone who has got involved in any way over the course of 2022! We’re looking forward to seeing you all back here again next year.
