We are aware of the issue with the badge emails resending to everyone, we apologise for the inconvenience
Hi everyone,
We are aware of the issue with the badge emails resending to everyone. We are very sorry for this, as many of you are aware we’re in the process of migrating the site and unfortunately that re-triggered the badge emails. We totally understand your frustration, but we want to reassure you that we are working on turning them off.
Just to clarify, this website is hosted on a community platform to allow us to connect with you, so this is not directly connected to your Dropbox account. This is frustrating, but we want to assure you that there has not been a breach, and our security protocols are still in place.
We are sorry for this inconvenience and confusion, and we hope you can bear with us while we work on this. Our intention was only to improve the Dropbox Community forum, and we are hoping that our technical glitch won’t deter you from being part of the Community with us.
Your Community team.
Hi everyone,
I’m Sheena, the Community Developer. Now that the emails have stopped, I wanted to share more details about what happened. As you’ve noticed, we underwent a major community upgrade this week, featuring a completely new UI and backend.
During the migration, badges were accidentally removed and then re-added, which caused everyone who had ever earned a badge to receive it again, triggering an email notification.
We disabled the email notifications as quickly as possible, but due to the high volume of emails already queued in the system, which could not be cleared by us, many were sent out regardless. This is why you may have received an email even after turning off email notifications in your settings or hours after the initial event.
The email queue is now clear, and we’re about to reactivate email notifications. From now on, you should only receive the normal volume of emails for actions relevant to you, such as if someone likes your comment or replies to your post. Remember, you can always update your notification settings by clicking here.
We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused. Please know that this was an honest mistake, and our goal is always to support and engage with you ❤️

I haven't posted in 8 years.
Yet here we are now in this glorious distant future we could never imagine.

Yeah these emails are annoying. Especially that I have to log in and share data to be able to access the unsubscribe feature

Just don't test on production! You have an unlimited amount of money and resources, and you can't make these mistakes.

Hi everyone, thanks for your feedback, we totally understand your frustration. Unfortunately, all of these emails were triggered at one time, so even though we have turned them off and edited all the site settings, there are still some making their way through the queues. We promise, they will stop soon.

Amy, thank you. It does look like this has been fixed. I have 25 notifications, but the last one seems to 2 1/2 hours ago. This, of course, is also an issue - I want to know when you post announcements or reply to your threads. Can you do a new announcement for which a notice does go out, with the URL that we can use to check for announcements from Dropbox? Can you make sure the notification settings work correctly so that we can opt in/out to the notices we want? This has been very damaging, as I do want notifications from Dropbox, just not a notice of every reply made in the thread.
On a forum I belong to, people get notified of a new posting on a thread, and then they receive no new notifications until they visit that thread. And they can opt to follow or not follow a thread. Maybe you could make that suggestion.
Another thought - you could start a new thread (and link to it here, if we can still get the kind of notification I just suggested) asking if people want badges. I agree with others that they cheapen the impression you're giving about Dropbox. OR, give badges to indicate how involved posters have been, but don't notify people about them.
There is also the issue that the info in the notifications was just wrong - the dates were crazy inaccurate. There is more to be fixed than just the sending of the notices.

I, too, have been receiving the "new badge" emails – 12 in the past 16 hours – a variety of badges, with some duplicates.

I'm having the same issue! Each new one says something different! Congratulations for 25 upvotes
" for 10 upvotes
" for my first upvote
" for this or that, yet I've not posted in this forum for a year or two.
Then I would log in, but it wouldn't let me reply, or like any posts, taking me round & round, and the chat, when I said my issue is that I can't post any comments in the forum, kept telling me to "ask your question in the community"!!! Which I can't, as that is the problem, on top of these constant spam emails! I just got half a dozen more in the last few hours! Why can't they fix this? - SvanteNew member | Level 2
same here, I changed settings in e-mail notifaction to never, hope it helps ...

You have to go here "https ://www.dropbox.com/account/connected_apps", and then scroll down till you see a section with apps connected to your account, among them it's one called "Dropbox Community". Tap on it to unfold the section, and then Disconnect, the hell out it !

It doesn’t.
