You might see that the Dropbox Community team have been busy working on some major updates to the Community itself! So, here is some info on what’s changed, what’s staying the same and what you can expect from the Dropbox Community overall.
It would be super handy to edit txt files in the preview window that opens when you click a document in your dropbox in the browser. So I can quickly store some text without having the pain of downloading - editing-uploading
Just an idea :)

Sanchezwrote:Hey everyone,Thank you all for posting your ideas about .txt file editing here. I’ve made sure to send your suggestion and comments to our team for review.Cheers!Great to see this being forwarded to the team! It really should be something that could be implemented really easily, especially since it's already available on the mobile app.
I'd love to allso suggest adding similar text-based files like .html, .php, .css, .js files and so on :)

It doesn't have to be fancy so I'm not gonna create a UI in AEM now. Something like https://www.editpad.org/ would totally work in Dropbox-Design-Language.
But downloading TXT-Files, opening them, changing stuff, saving, closing, and than uploading them back to Dropbox totally sucks.
Google Drive opens them in their standard Google Docs Editor. Unfortunately they also convert it at that moment to a second file. And you get the chance to open them in linked apps that you can install in Google.
I do not use Paper at all. What for?

With Dropbox Plus or Professional - is it possible to edit .txt-files online? Grazie mille.
- JaneDropbox StaffStatus changed:NewtoNewBuongiorno sholzers, you can currently co-author “.xlsx”, “.docx” & “.pptx” documents with others online & you can also utilize the in-app text editing on your :iphone:, though I appreciate the time you took to post us your interest on this functionality here. Buongiorno Jane, so it's not possible to edit .txt-files in my Dropbox (PC)? Not even in Plus and Professional plans? Bummer.
- JaneDropbox Staff
Hey sholzers, you can still edit your .txt files on your pc with your Windows Notepad as you'd normally do (i.e. regardless of the plan you're using) & re-upload them or sync them back to your account on your desktop, though the co-authoring functionality online is currenly available for “.xlsx”, “.docx” & “.pptx” documents.
I hope that this sheds a bit more light on your initial inquiry!
- jlredfordExplorer | Level 3There is the old third party app TextDropApp for doing this, but it would be more secure if done by Dropbox itself.
- ttaylorg1New member | Level 2It is absolutely ridiculous that this obvious, essential capability has not been provided in the FIVE YEARS since this feature was originally requested.

I have the same complaint. The app has been able to do it for a long time now, what's with the delay for the browser version?

i have been searching the web for txt file editing inside dropbox, but unfortunately, I have not found it. what a simple feature that dropbox has not implemented.

Ive waited for this feature 4 years now. Im not that into switching to Word as its very slow and paradoxically doesent work well on the phone.

Same request here.
A simple editor for plain text files or markdown editor would be immensely helpful and time saving.
