I had to re-sync Dropbox recently and when I sync the app on my iMac Dropbox creates locked alias folders for Desktop, Downloads and Documents. Do I have to wait for the files to sync and the localize the files fromDesktop, Downloads and Documents? I want these folders to be on my local computer not aliases that link to Dropbox2.3KViews0likes19CommentsMissing desktop files after deleting dropbox
Hi a while ago (6 months ago) I downloaded DropBox app and checked syncing with my personal Desktop files (although I think I disabled that immediately). It synced, but because I was using free version, only 2GB from my 60GB desktop were stored, the rest was not. Some time ago i uninstalled Dropbox (but now I am confused if i really did) and everything was fine. I kept on living like that since then, no issues, but today when I found I still have some remaining of files with 'Dropbox' in their names, I deleted them and all my Desktop files are now gone + I cannot save anything on my Desktop as it is just gone also, when I check what is my Desktop is pointing to it says "Desktop -> /Users/chopchop/Dropbox/My Mac (iMac (Chop))/Desktop" So I assume I just deleted my Dropbox directory today, and by deleting it, I deleted my desktop files which were not stored in Dropbox unfortunatelly. Should I just reinstall dropbox? When I try, it says that original dropbox directory is missing or relocated. Should i just create new directory and move app there? do u have any idea how to resolve lack of Desktop + this referencing, or do u recommend any files-recovery software which could help?Solved7.9KViews0likes40CommentsBroken files after Dropbox Backup auto-upgrade that filled the hard drive.
Hi, Yesterday, the Dropbox app on my Mac auto-updated and presented a dialog saying it needed to temporarily disable and then re-enable the Backup. I agreed, and it turned out that meant downloading all the folders I had selected as "online only." This quickly filled my hard drive space and caused my computer to freeze. After restarting, Dropbox seems to think that everything is in order, but the thing is, some files that it managed to move to a new location (e.g., from ~/Dropbox/Mac (2)/Documents to ~/Documents) are binary broken. They do not open, nor can I move them. I receive an error in Finder: "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code 0)." On the Dropbox.com web interface, the backup does not contain these broken files. They do not appear from "Show Deleted Files," nor can I see them being removed using the "Rewind" feature. Also, I cannot find them using the search field. Any hints on whether I can still recover these files are greatly appreciated. Thanks! I deleted the dropbox app off my desk and now I can't open my files. Now I can't even make a new folder on my desktop page, located any of my files, downloads or documents. I've contacted Apple and have been trying to get their help for the past 5 hours and they said it's probably because I had DropBox and it changed the files on my computer. Now that I have updated to Monterey I can't get any of my files and worst of all I didn't back up my computer. I'm trying to restore a back-up of one of the folders from my old laptop, onto my new laptop. However, I get this message that Dropbox couldn't set up the folder: "Move folder back to its default location, then try again." The username of this new Windows 11 account is different to the username on the old Windows 10 account. It's the same Microsoft account. How can I download these files?1.3KViews0likes7CommentsBackup feature is so broken that I cannot get my data.
I have backed up an external drive containing a folder of about 200GB in size, with many files inside it and an important, layered folder structure. Your backup feature is so broken that I cannot do anything with that backup, and now that the drive I had backed up with it has become corrupted, I am left in an impossible position. I cannot download the backup (too many files in zip?!), I cannot move it to the sync space, I cannot access it except file by file through your **bleep**ty web interface. Your software has been worse than useless - this is important data and if I knew your backup would not actually be ACCESSIBLE TO ME I would have used something else. The outcome is worse, I repeat, than if I had not used your software at all. What is worse is I gather from your support staff that the features that would have enabled me to solve this have actually been REMOVED, HAVING PREVIOUSLY EXISTED. Your support staff do not understand the seriousness of this breach of design. I need that data, which is mine, now and you are withholding it from me. I am currently informing the UK regulatory body about this. What I need is not some lame feature request putting in, but immediately that your tech team get that data and let me download it in full. It is possible if you escalate this issue enough for that to happen. Dropbox users should be quitting over this kind of broken design, I will be and I’ll be telling every professional in my field about how bad my experience has been.873Views1like7Comments
