You might see that the Dropbox Community team have been busy working on some major updates to the Community itself! So, here is some info on what’s changed, what’s staying the same and what you can expect from the Dropbox Community overall.

238 TopicsCan we have more folder options like custom folders or sub-folders to add to Computer Backup?
Right now, the automated backup option in Dropbox allows me to sync my Documents, Desktop and Downloads folders. By far the biggest - and most important - folder on my computer is the Music folder though. I can imagine for other people it's Pictures. Could we have a way to automatically backup those folders too? To be really ambitious: would we be able to clone our computer on Dropbox? I used to have an Apple Time Machine that allowed you to do just that. If your computer broke down or was stolen, you could buy a new one, let it download the clone, including not just your documents but your applications and presets too, and you'd be good to go! Please let Dropbox be the new Time Machine.74KViews237likes159CommentsOption to snooze the syncing process at a specific time/date
There are obviously pre-drobox folder ways of ensuring syncing only occurs at times of idle or a set delay from real time etc but just thought id put it out there that in my view, this would/should be a good feature and i don't really think it's that advanced either. The average user can understand this. specify a couple idle times, min wake up time etc. would be fine. There are many programs where working 'live' is not a good idea, database type programs, programs with lock.4d files, cad based programs where other files are referenced into other files, or even just in explorer/finder when you go to copy and do a big rename - you don't want it syncing in these situations. anyway, just putting it out there.224Views0likes4CommentsAdd .dropboxignore directory to exclude folders without using selective sync
Please please please can you add a feature that allows folders to be excluded from the Dropbox account (on windows and mac). For sure I'm not the first person to request this, but I'm yet to find a good explanation of why it's not there. A quick google search reveals loads of people also looking for the same feature. I really like the workflow I have with dropbox, but it's getting to the point where I might switch providers in order to allow better selective sync. I've seen hackish solutions using selective sync, but it would be great if this could be done in one of the following ways: - global pattern matching eg "node_modules" - a marker file in the directory like .dropboxignore - a simple right click context menu "Ignore this folder" Other than that, keep up the good work. Cheers. Tom608KViews1382likes1009CommentsChange Icons for folders in Windows
First, I would like to thank the Dropbox development team for addressing the issue with not being able to use my own desktop icons in Windows for Dropbox folders. That was accomplished a couple years ago. I wouldn't have kept my Dropbox account otherwise. That is very important to me and apparently to many subscribers. So, I am back on the same topic. I can change the icon for any folder except a shared folder, for which there is only the standard icon provided by Dropbox. If you have many shared folders, you have many icons that are the same. So, how about allowing a user to change the icon of a shared folder? I spent a least a couple of hours on trying to find out how. But nothing works. When I change it in Windows customize folder option, it never takes for a shared folder. Now, why is that? I think it's time for the Dropbox develooment team to step up, like they have before and solve another simple problem. We know you can do it. We are cheering you on! Thanks for listening to your community of users!43Views1like0CommentsDisable folder deletion in team space for team members
We have issues with users accidentally deleting entire folders, unfortunately this seems to happen on our larger teams that have a lot of data in their folders. This means a lot of down time waiting for help recovering the folders/files. We regularly train our users not to delete folders but it happens anyway. Our users need to be able to edit files, but there is no reason for them to be able to delete entire folders. Having a function to prevent users from being able to delete at the Folder level would prevent a lot of down time as well as having to escalate recovery to DropBox.254Views0likes3CommentsDark Mode for Dropbox on Desktop
Hello Everybody! I have created this thread to provide updates on Dark Mode for Dropbox on Desktop. We are closing off the longer thread for general Dark Mode requests so that we can provide our community with updates for specific products, and so that requests don't get lost. At the time of posting, our team is looking into Dark Mode for Desktop, but cannot provide a time frame for implementation. You can vote for this idea and comment here to show your support. I will update the status of this idea when we know more! Regards, Ben9.9KViews23likes21CommentsFolder automation video conversion settings for proxy media
Hi, I would like to have adjustable video encoding settings within folder automation settings. For example, I would like to have the option to be able to convert a large 4K MP4 file with a 50kbps bitrate and large file size into a more manageable proxy file at 720p with a lower bitrate of 5kbps, or any combination of resolutions and bitrates.102Views0likes1CommentOption to link multiple Dropbox team accounts on the same device
Problem: Our Managing Director manages multiple organizations, each with separate Dropbox Business accounts. Since there’s no option to switch between business accounts easily, he has to repeatedly sign out and sign in to access each account. This is time-consuming, inconvenient, and disrupts workflow—especially during critical moments when quick access to files across both accounts is needed. Proposed Solution: Introduce a business account switching feature similar to the existing personal account switching functionality. This would allow users to connect multiple Dropbox Business accounts and switch between them seamlessly without having to log out and log in each time. Key Benefits: Increased Productivity: No more interruptions from logging in and out multiple times a day. Users can quickly access the files they need from any account. Improved User Experience: A simplified workflow for professionals and business leaders who oversee multiple organizations. Enhanced Collaboration: Easier access to shared resources across accounts, benefiting not only executives but also team members who might work across multiple business entities. This feature would be valuable for executives, consultants, or managers who work with multiple businesses and need streamlined access to their Dropbox accounts for efficient multitasking.189Views0likes1Comment
