240 TopicsDropbox very slow with Windows explorer
After wasting time, as usual, with Dropbox's assistance, I try to ask here. My problem is relatively simple to explain and consists in the fact that if I use Windows Explorer, navigating in the Dropbox folder is torture since any operation it's very slow (creating a folder, copying a file, etc...) while if I use, for example (but it couldn't be the solution) a file explorer like Explorer++ everything works perfectly. Another thing I verified is that if I navigate to the Dropbox folder from a Windows window that opens for example when I want to open/save a file, everything works without problems. The problem remains confined to windows explorer. Can anybody help me? Thank you6.8KViews11likes12CommentsAdd Folder Sorting by Creation Date
I would like to suggest a feature that could greatly enhance the functionality and usability of Dropbox: the ability to sort folders by their creation date in addition to the existing sorting options. Why This Feature is Needed: 1 Efficient Drive Management: When cleaning out or reorganizing storage, sorting folders by their creation date provides a clear timeline of when content was added, helping users identify older, potentially obsolete folders. 2 Improved File Organization: This feature would allow users to understand the chronological context of their data, which is especially useful for archival purposes. 3 Consistency Across Systems: Many file managers (e.g., Finder on macOS and File Explorer on Windows) already offer this option. Having it in Dropbox ensures a seamless workflow between local and cloud storage. Feature Details: Add "Creation Date" as a sortable column in both the web interface and desktop applications. Ensure folders can be sorted by creation date, just like individual files. Include this option in APIs for developers who work with automated tools or scripts. Potential User Benefits: Faster identification of outdated data, leading to more efficient storage usage. Enhanced organizational tools for power users and businesses managing extensive files and folders. Thank you for considering this request. I believe this feature would add significant value to Dropbox and make it even more indispensable for users like me who rely on it for efficient file management. Please let me know if further details or examples would be helpful.57Views4likes4CommentsFeedback about the file path change
I've read a couple threads on here, and I've seen the response about how "each team member will have a personal folder by default, which contains their own personal files/folders, as well as files that have been shared with them." The next time another idea or suggest comes through that involves changing a folder path - take it back to the drawing board. I could think of at least two other ways that 'personal folders' could have been implemented while maintaining the existing structure - and that was only in the past day since this fiasco started. The change has disrupted business. Let me give you some data points to include for future test cases to use. 1) Quick Access broke. Easy enough fix.. unpin and re-pin after successfully syncing up. 2) Excel links that were direct paths broke - literally have to go through each excel file and update links manually. I have a PowerShell script that does this.. but anyone without that script will have to manually update the links. 3) Out of 25 users, only 2 had a successful transition with the folder rename via their Dropbox Update. About 10 involved shutting down Dropbox because it was either stuck on database upgrade or starting. Had to restart the computer, and then allow Dropbox to run to get it to successfully transition. Also - when this happened, it didn't put it back where the folder was originally but ended up defaulting to the User's folder in Windows. The remaining workstations involved deleting Dropbox altogether and reinstalling manually. Any work that was done during the day was completely wiped. My client is furious and rightly so.Solved2.3KViews4likes4Commentsaccessing online-only files from macos terminal
I have a large, shared dropbox folder that is set to "online-only", but I want to make specific files available offline. I know I can do this via right clicks in the Finder window for individual files, but I need to do this for many files. How can I do this via the macOS terminal? I'm using macOS 12.6, and dropbox v166.4.29203.4KViews3likes13CommentsOffline Online Green checkmark / Cloud icon indicators not visible / Finder MacOs 12.3 M1
Hi, was wondering if the Green / partially green and Cloud icon indicators for Selective sync inside finder are coming back soon? I know that you're working on a fix with new Macs and online previewing, is this part of the same problem? Dropbox v145.4.4921 MacOs 12.3 M1 Hope to hear from you, makes it really hard to get an indication which folders and files are stored locally. Taken from this post. (https://www.dropboxforum.com/idea/101002013/notifications-for-file-request-uploads-and-icon-on-unseen-new-files/826030) For some reason it's giving me an error if I try to put this as a link... My boss really needs a super friendly user experience since he isn't that tech savvy. I think it'd be very helpful if there was an option to show an icon on any unseen new files, and to have folders have a number icon showing how many of these unseen new files are inside. Kind of like unread emails/texts.37Views2likes1CommentNotifications for new file request uploads
My boss really needs a super friendly user experience since he isn't that tech savvy. He'd really like it if the mobile app icon showed the "little red number" for unseen new file uploads. I don't see any option for notifications on new uploads... [edited by moderator to remove the second suggestion] Also, the web interface for posting this has reset twice right before I could post it, wiping my entire post. I had to type it up somewhere else and paste it here. No idea why that was happening...63Views2likes4Comments
