Hi, I’m currently evaluating Dropbox as a tool to store PDF files for easy access using content search (keywords etc). At the moment, I’m just using a number of test documents to assess the suitability I will mainly access on iOS devices, using the Dropbox apps. Overall, it seems good, however it refuses to find large PDF files (800 pages) despite the keywords being in the document. For ref, documents have been loaded for over 24 hours If I open the file and then search within, the key words are easily found and highlighted, so I’ve no idea why the documents can’t be found I’m not having any issues with smaller documents . If it helps, the same document loaded to OneDrive, can be easily found using search. It can also be easily located using other apps such as PDF Expert. Hope someone can help JSolved763Views0likes5CommentsDo downloaded files maintain the OCR function?
I work with blind / visually impaired people. For them, the OCR function is important, so the device can read the content of a file to them. I found out, that DropBox uses OCR for the documents, stored in DropBox. My question: My client wants to download her files to her MacBook and store them in the Finder. When she downloads pdf files, do they still have the OCR function?148Views0likes1CommentIncrease the filetypes considered in full text search
Today's Dropbox web and Desktop interfaces for full search support just certain filetypes (.doc .docx .docm .gdoc .gsheet .jpg .paper .papert .pdf .png .ppt .pptx .pptm .gif .gslide .rtf .tiff .txt .xls .xlsx .xlsm .vtt). There are, though, other files that have the same structure as some of the formally admitted filetypes and there is no technical reason to exclude them from a full text search. This is the case of the files used by the scientific text processor LaTeX (.bib, .tex, bbl...). Many of them are technically identical to the .txt files. In fact the current full text search is able to find the searched text in some of the files with these extensions although it does not find all the files having the searched text in them. Despite this rather arbitrary behaviour, the technical support team indicates that the problem is simply that the filetype is not supported for full search by the system. Would it possible to formally include every file which is .txt compatible in the full text search?Solved327Views0likes2CommentsExclude folders when searching for content in my mobile app.
Is it possible to exclude certain folders from the search function? I have a lot of files in my school folder when I was in college but I don’t want this folder to be searched when I search for files. I use dropbox on my iPhone by the way. Thanks383Views0likes1CommentAdvanced search based on key phrases
I seriously need advanced searching. Dropbox used to have these features (like search exact phrase) in 2015, but somehow removed them. So how can I do advanced searching in dropbox? Dear Dropbox, I've been a paying subscriber for over a decade, now. Great product! I have discovered one curious aspect of your iOS product that has proven frustrating in practice. When searching for a file, I'm limited to only 100 results. Most of the time this is fine, but there are occasions when I'm searching for a file that is for work and there are far more than 100 results. As a consequence of this limited display of results, I am unable to find the file and share it with a colleague. Given that the entire point of Dropbox is to share files, this is highly frustrating. There is no such limit on the desktop integration, of course, so it's quite a thorn to be so restricted on iOS. Perhaps the app could include a search results option that allows the user to display more than 100 results? Default could still be 100, that's fine, but at least allow the user to select more when needed. Maybe something like 100, 1000, and 2500 or some such? At the risk of sounding foolish, it seems like this would be a fairly simple change, would not break the app, and would allow users the ability to continue using Dropbox in their workflows as needed. Thanks again for an otherwise great service. Keep up the good work. JP441Views0likes1CommentOnline search gives an error message. Why?
Hi There, any advice please on the below issue? Every time I select the Online Search window in recent days I get this message. Same message was happening for other colleagues in recent days but resolved. Issue is ongoing for me. Have updated Firefox and deleted caches etc but the problem persists. Any advice greatly appreciated. Hi There, any advice please on the below issue? Every time I select the Online Search window in recent days I get this message. When inside a given folder and trying to search using filters, I am only getting them once I add keyword in the search box. In the attached example, I had to enter the word 2024 in order for the filters to show up- I would like the filter to show up even if no keyword or other criteria (e.g. Folder) is set in the search box, this would allow me to perform wider searches, especially useful since I am planning (but not yet convinced) to move thousands of pictures to Dropbox. This a very common feature on other platforms750Views0likes2CommentsSearch questions
Aloha. Not sure if I'm putting this in the correct group, please help me redirect if this needs to go someplace else. I have two questions about Search. I'm running the Dropbox mobile app for Android V384.2.2 on a Samsung S7 FE tablet with Android 14. 1) Some of the places I use my tablet there is no internet. If I try to search for something, I get a 'no internet' notice. I can connect to my phone's hotspot, but I'd prefer not to. All the files I want to search have the 'Make available offline' feature enabled. Do I really need to have an internet connection to search? Or, hopefully, is there a setting so that I don't have to be connected to the internet 2) Is there a search index feature the I can enable to improve search performance. Some of the folders I want to search have many files and it takes a while to get a result. I'd love to have a pre-built search index that runs in the background to help speed up searches. Mahalo (thank you!) Harry Z799Views0likes5CommentsMake search by file or foldername easy again, and allow us to set default sort to Modified date
Dropbox search used to be pretty quick, where you could enter a few words in the file or folder name you were looking for and it would find it. Once it started sorting by Relevance by default, old and very irrelevant results would go to the top, but with one click you could set it to be sorted by date and find your file. But now that search looks inside files, the results are crowded by hundreds of results that you're not looking for. It's made search almost impossible for me, unless I do extra clicks that sort or filter the results. I don't have time to do this every time I simply need to find my file. I'm suggesting for the Dropbox search: 1) Sort by filedate by default. Let people click Relevance if they want to sort by that. 2) Search inside files should be a checkbox that we can uncheck, or is unchecked by default. Let us choose to search inside files (and look through hundreds of results)409Views0likes1Comment
