In my Mac's System Preferences for iCloud, iCloud Drive has an Options button next to it. Clicking that shows a list of apps below a statement "Apps which can store documents and data in iCloud will appear here." Most are Apple apps like Mail, Calendar, and other Apple apps. And I understand why I would want to turn them on or off. There are also 2 or 3 third party apps as well, like my Calendar replacement, a PDF editing app, and a graphics app that can share files between my Macs so I can edit images anywhere. But Dropbox is listed here too. Can anyone tell me WHY it is here and WHAT it reads/writes to iCloud? There is nothing in the iCloud Drive that is obviously Dropbox related, and no items that are duplicated in the Dropbox folder. The iCloud Drive folder (as well as looking at them in a browser logged into iCloud) only shows folders Documents, Desktop, Downloads, Shortcuts, and those 3rd party apps. Dropbox is not one of them. Apps which appear here have to have iCloud functionality built in to them...not all installed apps appear here. So I'm trying to understand why Dropbox has this ability built in, and what it's for. And can I turn it off, or is it syncing some Dropbox settings between my Dropbox equipped computers on the same account? Does it have something to do with syncing photos (I do not use Dropbox's feature to backup my iPhone photos)? Below is a screenshot of Dropbox appearing in the iCloud Drive pane:8.7KViews4likes8CommentsCan I install the desktop app in Raspberry Pi 4?
Hi, i'm trying to install dropbox in a raspberry pi 4 with raspbian lite (no X installed). The architecture (armhf) seems to not be supported (only debian, fedora, ubuntu with x86 32/64), I would like to use dropbox daemon to automatically sync my files using typical .dropbox-dist, as i do in other machines (ubuntu mainly). Is this possible on a raspberry pi ? I don't know if python projects could launch background jobs to sync files or if those tools are intended to be used on demand (download this, upload another thing, etc.). I tried pip3 install dropbox, as well as, apt-get install python3-dropbox. Not sure if they are same thing, and how to use. I have seen some projects like "github.com/andreafabrizi/Dropbox-Uploader.git" or "ExaGear Desktop", but this seems to miss that "dropbox daemon flavor" and i don't want X server (i prefer raspbian lite). Which would be the best approach ?Solved9.2KViews3likes4Comments"Enable Finder Integration"
I hope I'm asking in the right place. Did Dropbox do away with the "Enable Finder Integration" option? When it's *disabled* the image dimensions are displayed in the Finder with my pictures rather than "up to date"... That's what I want, to disable it. I don't want the big green check mark. I can't find the "Enable Finder Integration" option in preferences anymore.Solved14KViews3likes14CommentsCan't edit then and SAVE (not save as!) Office documents on Android. Please help.
I'm not a tech guru, but not a complete newbie either. I have the standard free Dropbox (140.4.1951) on my Windows 10 laptop (all automatic updates). Dropbox app on my Samsung S10e (running the latest version 12). Office app (all in one) on my Samsung. I also have (as a test just now), the Word standalone app. TEST 1 I opened the Dropbox app on my phone. I could see all my files. I opened a Word doc using the Office All-In-One app. I made a simple edit. I could not save the edit unless I chose 'Save as'. I didn't want to Save As. I wanted to edit my Word document, save the changes and then open the file on my laptop. TEST 2 I opened the same Word doc using the standalone Word app. I was asked to login to Dropbox to complete the pairing with Word. To my surprise, the edit option was greyed out. TEST 3 I opened the same Word doc using the Office All-In-One app. For some reason the edit option which appeared before is now greyed out. What am I missing? I've searched forums, checked settings, all to no avail. Please help.6.3KViews2likes6CommentsUse Dropbox to Replace Google Cloud Print or AirPrint
My printer doesn't support AirPrint (Apple's print over wi-fi solution) and Google has discontinued it's Cloud Print offering. But it seems like I still have a fairly regular need to print from my phone or for my child to print something from school that will be ready when they get home. I have a solution. LIMITATIONS This solution is specifically for Mac users, but I suspect there is a similar option Windows users as well, as mentioned toward the end of this post. You need an always-on computer that can print to the printer. A closed laptop probably won't work. STEPS (MacOS) Part One: Create the Automator Script Somewhere in your Dropbox folder, create two new folders: "Home Office Printer" or whatever you want to call it to indicate where it will print. "Completed" folder for items that finished printing. You could skip this step and instead trash items after they print. I have a top level "AirPrint" folder which then contains these two folders. How it's organized doesn't really matter. It's up to you. Open a new task in Automator, and select "Folder Action" as the type. Add the following step in Automator: Set variable – "doc" as the file to print. When you see "$doc" in these instructions it means I'm using the variable. Display notification – with title "Faux AirPrint is Starting" and message "Printing $doc" Get value – of variable: $doc. Print finder items – and select the printer you want to print to. Move finder items – to the "Completed" folder. Or to the trash if you prefer. Display notification – with title "Faux AirPrint Finished" and message "The document was sent to the printer." Save the Automator document as "Faux AirPrint" or whatever suits you. Right-click on the "Home Office Printer" (the folder you created) and select Services > Folder Actions Setup ... A new window will open prompting you to select a script to attach to the folder. Select the "Faux AirPrint Folder Action" or whatever name you gave your Automator file. Click the "Attach" button. Verify that the "On" boxes are checked next to the name of the folder and the name of the automation. Close the "Folder Actions Setup" window. Test this out from your phone or some other device by copying a document into the "Home Office Printer" folder. Let Dropbox sync that to the folder on the computer connected to your printer. The folder action should print the file and then move it to the "Completed" folder (or trash). What is nice about this solution is that you don't even have to be on the same network, as you do with AirPrint. You can do it from anywhere you have an internet connection. WINDOWS I don't know much about similar options for Windows users, but a quick search indicates there are solutions available. Here's one article I found:https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/automate-windows-tasks-folder-actions/ Perhaps someone else will add instructions for Windows users to be able to do the same. PRO TIPS You can share the "Home Office Printer" folder with you spouse or work collegues or whomever. They don't have to set anything up. They just have to copy items to the folder to print. You can setup a Dropbox File Requestdirected to the print folder to allow someone the temporary ability to print to your printer. If you generate regular reports that need to be printed or have any other process that requires printing, you can just direct the file output to the print folder rather than trying to automate the printing process. If you use iOS Shortcuts, you can create a shortcut to for the share sheet that automatically saves the document to the print folder. This gives you one-click printing from your iPhone or iPad. Here's a quick overview of the steps: Get File – Set the initial path to your print folder. If (file extension is not "pdf") then make PDF from file Save File – to Service:Dropbox; do not ask where to save; set the destination path to your print folder. In the shortcut options, enable "Show in Share Sheet" That's it! This solution has been serving me flawlessly for several years, so I thought I would share. Feedback welcome.3.7KViews2likes1CommentOutlook on iOS cannot see all folders in my Dropbox
I use Outlook on both my iPhone and iPad. When I go to attach a file from a new email, I can access my Dropbox account, but I do not see all of the folders in my account, nor all of the files. Does anyone know why this is the case? I have the Dropbox app on my devices and that app can see all of my folders and files. The Files application native to iOS can see all of my folders and files. I've added Dropbox to my places in Outlook but can only see some of the folders and files. Thanks in advance for your help.4.9KViews2likes6CommentsCan I sync OneNote notebooks through Dropbox?
Just as the question says, can I have my ON notebooks sync through Dropbox? Instead of using OneDrive. I've been looking online and so far I've only found third-party apps and services that do it, not a straight up sync option. I haven't really used ON before, but I was exploring it as a posibility for my notes, since I use Dropbox for just about everything else and was not interested in having an extra backup service. Thank you.Solved8.4KViews1like3Comments
