Setting up the apps
8 Topics"Online only" default option for app--completely useless?
I set up the dropbox app on my PC, and followed the instructions to make the attendant folder treat everything I put there as online-only by default. As the instructions say, "This setting means that all future files and folders that you add to the Dropbox folder on your computer will be online-only." Clear enough, right? Except whenever I copied and pasted a file into the folder (I need the originals to live elsewhere, and don't want duplicates taking up space), it was offline, with the green check. I did everything I could to make it work, gave it time thinking maybe they would switch after a bit, and then finally noticed this caveat at the bottom of the instructions they give to make online-only the default: "Note:If you create a document directly on your computer and move it into your Dropbox folder, it’ll still be available offline unless you manually set it to be online-only." What? As opposed to what?! Moving items I created (or that just exist on my computer period) into the dropbox folder is the only way I have to put them in there! So what is the point of the setting that I want files I put there to be online-only? What else would they mean by "all future files and folders that you add to the Dropbox folder on your computer," if not these? Please tell me what I am missing and what I can do to make this work properly. Thanks very much!Solved2.1KViews0likes1CommentMac desktop app failing to sync and continuously quitting/restarting
iMac running Ventura 13.1 and Dropbox v164.4.7914. The desktop app shows an 'x' symbol in the menu bar. When I click on the icon in the menu bar it shows"can't sync" in the status bar at the bottom. It also throws an error saying "Dropbox unexpectedly quit' with Restart and Close buttons. Clicking Restart goes through this same loop. Files do seem to be syncing to Dropbox though, as I can see them appear in the web viewer when dragging them into the Dropbox folder, and disappearing if I bin them. But this is happening with the Dropbox app closed. Weird.Solved1.2KViews0likes2CommentsCamera Upload- Preserve Original Photo creation Dates?
Hello, I have a great deal of photos on my Iphone that I am contemplating to use DropBox. Archiving is very important to me with original creation dates. If I use the Camere Upload app, will the photo uploaded to Dropbox have the original creation date and other meta data (camera used, gps info). It is very important that I have the original creation date on my pictures and have this file be accessible on my other devices. In Mac and MS Windows, if I move a file (cut/cop), the creation date is preserved. If I copy a file, the creation date becomes the date when the file was copied. So in the Camera Upload app am I copying or moving? Or I can do both? -AndySolved20KViews3likes38Comments
