A new "feature" has been implemented where if I drop a new file in a DB folder, and then go to click on "Copy Dropbox Link", it simply won't perform the task until the file has finished uploading. Apparently this is to "prevent 404 errors". The "error" page that comes up when you clicked on a link before it had finished uploading was actually a "Uh Oh! File hasn't finished uploading yet". This to me isn't an "error" page and shouldn't be treated as such. It's clear and communicates exactly what it needs to and doesn't warrant a restriction in functionality for the rest of the users. The solution you've silently implementedhas caused a monstrous delay in my daily workflow. I work in a fast paced environment, generating new content every hour and sharing it with dozens of people in my team. The fact that I can simply drop files and right-click and "copy link" and THEN carry on with the rest of my tasks while keeping an eye out for the spinning icon in the tray and THEN send the copied link to my recipients, means that I am FLOWING. When I have to do that dozens of times per hour, if you block me from generating a link as soon as I drop it in the DB folder, you're forcing me to having to RETURN back to DB a second time in the process. You've added a whole extra step, and it's absolutely killed my flow.Solved22KViews55likes95CommentsFile Request - Please provide an option to NOT rename our uploaded files
We receive tons of file submissions from our business partners daily. However, a large part of the time I spend managing these submissions is spent renaming the files because they're automatically prefixed or suffixed with theDropbox username of the user that uploaded the file. This causes a lot of unnecessary work and wasted time. I am requesting that you allow us - the paying Dropbox users - the option to determine for ourselves if the Dropbox username is desired . . . or, if the original unaltered filenames are what we'd like to have to work with. Thank you. PS - If I've linked you to this message, it was because you had created or responded to a thread that included the terms File & Request. I know this may not apply to everyone, but if you think that this is a reasonable feature to add (at least, the option to not have the Dropbox user prefixed or suffixed onto the original file name), then please vote for and link other Dropbox members that you think might benefit from this feature, and promote this idea! Hi I've been using that COPY PUBLIC LINK from dropbox.com for years and at first it used to actually copy it to the windows copy buffer as it should. Over the past couple of months it would pop the address as it should but it stopped being able to automatically copy to the copy buffer, but luckily i could still do it myself manually by manually selecting the text and hitting ctrl-c. In the latest build of dropbox.com, it doesn't even list the address to the file anymore and obviously it couldn't copy to the buffer beforehands but now i can't do it manually either! :( so i can't share any files from dropbox.com right now! :( I've tried in both google chrome and firefox and same issue with both. As for which version of windows i'm running, it's the up to date win10.... Thanks in advance. -senecaSolved19KViews17likes105CommentsSort by name, folders first
Lately my sorting has been screwed up on web version of Dropbox. My files & folders are sorted alphabetically. What I really want is sorting by name, grouping by kind so that folders are displayed first (sorted by name) followed by files sorted by name. Please advise me on how to do that? ThanksSolved13KViews14likes21CommentsWhy does Dropbox ask for your computer password
Hi, I just came across this blog post detailing some, shall we say, unorthodox ways Dropbox is circumventing OS X security features and tricking users into sharing their admin password: http://applehelpwriter.com/2016/07/28/revealing-dropboxs-dirty-little-security-hack/ I found the same happened on my system (OS X 10.11.6), Dropbox v9.v.49). Can you explain why you do this?16KViews11likes35CommentsMessage everyone with access to shared folder with one click.
I am a Dropbox Business user with a company of ONE. I work freelance with a boat load of other people who are also freelance. I am a part of several projects a year and need to share folders with a new group of 30-100 people every few weeks - all of which are outside my organization since, as I mentioned, we're all freelancing individuals. As the shared folder owner, I often need to message everyone who has access to that folder. It is extremely tedious to look up and type in the email of each individual person. I would greatly benefit from a 'message everyone with access' to a shared folder feature.2.7KViews10likes9CommentsDisable URL to screenshot when taking a screenshot
When I take a screenshot, a public URL to it is automatically copied. This has been annoying in a few situations because I had some code copied that I wanted to paste, but overwritten by the screenshot URL. How can I disable dropbox from automatically copying the URL to my clipboard? I'm on macOS.13KViews9likes19Comments
