Space and storage
28 Topicsduplicate photos without impacting storage
i have lots of photos and videos that belong to multiple hierarchies. for example if i'm on a trip and i record video of some concerts i'm at, i save those videos to a 'travel' folder organized by place and date and also to a music folder organized by the band i'm recording. this is really handy as i can share the entire history of footage i have of that band with someone easily by sharing the the band folder and i don't have to wade through the other videos/pictures from the trip. ideally, i could do this without impacting storage. after all, it is the same photo or video, and under the hood dropbox could just have two different pointers to the same video and i could share one pointer without sharing the other, thus not doubling the storage space. i think this would be useful for a lot of users!192Views0likes1CommentiPhone storage and dropbox
Hi! Hoping you can help. I have the Dropbox app on my phone and I am in the process of moving my videos from my camera roll to Dropbox. I am doing this purely to try and free up space on my phone. However my question is - does this actually free up space on my phone or does it just basically store them in a different place as my videos have disappeared from my camera roll and are now in dropbox so I’m thinking maybe I’m not actually freeing up any space? Please if someone could help answer my question that would be v helpful!3KViews0likes6CommentsUsing "Manage Hard Drive Space" for folders synced through Dropbox Backup
So there's a great feature in Dropbox desktop that allows you to see graphically what is taking up all of the space on your hard drive, and very quickly change certain/all dropbox content to online only to free up space. However, it turns out that if you use Dropbox Backup, that manage feature is disabled. I don't fully understand why, as using backup as I see it, makes my desktop and documents live in my Dropbox folder set, and can be used as such, with making my own files online to save space. I appreciate that maybe the Manage Space function may not be able to work against my desktop/documents backup, but I would still expect to be able to manage my main Dropbox Team folder content to release any old offline files easily. I did raise this previously onhttps://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-ideas/Missing-quot-Manage-Hard-Drive-Space-quot-option-when-using/idc-p/776330but it was closed due to inactivity. Figured I would raise it again to keep it live and hope that people upvote it, so that the dev guys take a look at it.329Views1like1CommentWhy is Free Storage Space Removed by Dropbox?
I've been reading through some community posts, and a few people have said similar to the following: They have a free account, have storage of over 20GB, but Dropbox has messaged them to say the space will be reduced back to 2GB. Why is this? I don't want to go to the trouble of referring people to get more space, then have Dropbox message me and tell me the space will be removed. Does space get reduced if you don't use it after a certain amount of time or something?Solved15KViews1like31CommentsI got a message that I have only 2 GB of space; where did my 16.75 GB go?
hi! first of all I am quite pissed as there's no way to contact anyone on dropbox. second, on 2019/09/29 I had 16.75 gb of space gained in about 8 years by inviting people to join dropbox, and now I got the message that I have only 2 gb. what happened? There were written nowhere that the space had some expiring date, and I didn't sign that I agree to reduce the space i gained by basically ''selling'' other people's sensitive data. I want my space back?. thank you.1.6KViews0likes7Commentsdropbox says "not enough space" even though I have 2 GB and only 1 file with 35kb is saved :/
Hello, I cannot understand why dropbox says "not enough space" even though I have 2 GB and only 1 file with 35kb is saved. This is the first time since many years that this happens. 😕 Thank you for your assistance! Regards, Andi7KViews0likes23CommentsDropbox shows that my files take up more space than they actually do
I align Dropbox with the computer. I see in the Dropbox folder two folders with dimensions 550 mega and 1 giga respectively. The Dropbox folder instead shows a size of 2.3 GB! What could be the problem?Solved4.7KViews0likes6CommentsDropbox Full when trying to upload to shared content
Last August I went to shoot an event in Manhattan Beach CA and was sent an invite to join another accounts DropBox account to make it easy for me to share content I captured during the event and get it up to them since they hosted the account. The account belongs to the AVP [Association of Volleyball Professionals]. Going into the event, I had a basic FREE 2GB account and accepted their invite [which was sent via email] and since then my account has been FULL and DURING the event last year, I was not able to upload more than the 2GB I was registered for despite uploading to a different account. How do I address this? The event is next month and I would like to NOT have to upload to a different medium simply because DB isn't working properly. Today July 25 I was sent a link to a folder owned by a wedding photographer in an effort to upload RAW images I have on my HD to HIS DropBox account but again, the transfer stops because of the 2GB limit [MY] account has. Can anyone help?Solved2.4KViews0likes6Comments
