Space and storage
100 TopicsAllow a personal account to have more than 3 TB
Hello, I'm a graphic designer with over 15 years of workload. This obviously equates to extreme files sizes. I was disappointed to learn Dropbox don't offer a package for single users over 3TB. I work solely and require more cloud space and don't want to have to upgrade to a 'per user' plan as this isn't cost effective. This option has to become available soon.56KViews153likes190CommentsOffer a 'Cold Storage' option at a lower rate with restricted access to match
Cold Storage - I would love to see an add on to the pro accounts to allow us to move active footage off the active content and into cold storage billed as a lower rate and accessed accordingly - if this could be connected with our current drop box account it means simple move or even simply selecting a button to turn a file cold while leaving it in the same files structure - not unlike what you have going on the desktop application with cloud, tentatively online and permanently online - you could also have a frozen state - maybe it takes several days to access the footage once frozen but it would use space in my current service at a lower level. OR connect with a 3rd party program to offer this - from google searches it looks like you were offering this but now are not..243Views0likes2CommentsAdd option to auto-delete original file after it's been converted via automation
Add an option to the automation workflow to delete a file after it's been converted. Use case: I have automation set up on a folder to convert all .heic to .jpg. However after the conversion, there's no way to automatically delete the original .heic and just keep the new .jpg. Thus I'm wasting a lot of space on duplicate images, and have to manually go in and delete the heic's. I previously submitted this idea and it received several votes but was closed due to inactivity. Starting a new idea because this feature would be really useful and I hope it gets implemented.328Views0likes2CommentsCommand line code to switch between "Allow offline access" and "Online only" instead of mouse clicks
It would be nice to be able to switch between "allow offline access" and "online only" on the command line instead of using the mouse. For example, "% dropbox -offline_accsess true file1,file2,file3...", "% dropbox -offline_accsess false file1,file2,file3..." Once this is done, it is possible to treat files from the application in much the same way as if they were stored locally, while saving disk space by making them "online only".561Views1like4CommentsAllow Dropbox Business team sync online-only settings for more than the parent or one subfolder
There is a major limitation with dropbox in that you can only change the global sync default settings for parent and one sub-ordinate folder in global settings. I want to set default sync settings to online only for team members for third, fourth, fifth level sub-ordinate folders. It is not practical or reasonable to do this on a machine by machine level. I don't understand why there is a restriction at all. Raised with Dropbox Support, who were the most unhelpful with their responses.420Views0likes4CommentsAutomatically update the copies (clone files) when editing the original file
We use our dropbox to hold educational materials for our Nail Brand. To make it easier on the staff we have folders for each course. In each of those folders there are files that are repeated in each one. Every time we want to update that file we have to then make sure it is updated everywhere else it lives. In this new world of ai, I am hoping there is a way in the future to have ONE main document in a parent folder and then little clones of it living in each of the other folders. When we decide it needs an update, we are able to change the parent file and the clones all change too. I hope this makes sense. Right now, as a newish employee I do not know where all these files live.435Views0likes2CommentsMissing "Manage Hard Drive Space" option when using Dropbox Backup
So there's a great feature in Dropbox desktop that allows you to see graphically what is taking up all of the space on your hard drive, and very quickly change certain/all dropbox content to online only to free up space. However, it turns out that if you use Dropbox Backup, that manage feature is disabled. I don't fully understand why, as using backup as I see it, makes my desktop and documents live in my Dropbox folder set, and can be used as such, with making my own files online to save space. I appreciate that maybe the Manage Space function may not be able to work against my desktop/documents backup, but I would still expect to be able to manage my main Dropbox Team folder content to release any old offline files easily.2KViews2likes4Comments
