I am hoping to migrate to Dropbox from Canto, but one of the few important features I need is the ability to search by tags. I don't see any simple way of creating tags en masse with an import, but the files exported all have tags showing in the file keywords. I figured I could then just search for a keyword, so I went with "stand against" - a term I have on a few hundred files. The screenshot below is a file with that shown in the keywords. Here is me searching that term: There are no filters at all, just one term. I tried quotes around the term(s), and used several other keywords as well. I haven't been able to get any result searching for keywords listed in my file details. Are keywords not a searchable field? The Dropbox helpdoc titled "How to search your Dropbox files" at /view-edit/search says it is, but I'm not seeing that in reality. Is there something I'm doing wrong here? Is there perhaps another way to better tag photos on an import (from Canto)? I'm doing this on dropbox.com / via chrome and firefox on windows.15Views0likes1CommentWhen opening a shared link using Gmail, it alters the URL.
As I prepare to send a press release to my media contacts with my Dropbox folder link (that has view-only permissions) included, I've found that the link works only a few times after I click it in my test emails. But afterwards, the URL starts to unfurl the ampersands (&) as "amp;" and it breaks the link, giving 400 errors on all my devices. i.e. The original, working URL structure: [...] rlkey=rjcrcap8ebtitcazxmlhi4zw0&st=yl5h2f17&dl=0 The 400 error version of the link: [...] rlkey=rjcrcap8ebtitcazxmlhi4zw0&st=yl5h2f17&dl=0 When I delete the "amp;"s manually, the URL works again as it should. Any idea why this is happening? I cannot share my Dropbox link until this is fixed. For my tests, I am using the latest iOS both on a recent Macbook and an iPhone 14. Browser is Google Chrome or Safari (both seem to have the issue). Mail system I'm using is Gmail.24Views0likes3CommentsQuick look isn't working on files, it shows an icon only on Mac OS Sonoma
I got a new M3 MBP and have been transferring everything over. On my old MBP 2015 I could use quick look to see what the files were both offline and online. On my new MBP when I do quick look it only gives me an icon. It doesn't show what is in the file or the photo. I really need to be able to see what is in these files. Why isn't allowing me to see what is in them? Does anyone know how to resolve this!!! Thank you!30Views0likes3CommentsPage isn't loading when opening a file in "Excel for the web" on Safari
Hi - I'm hoping someone can help me. We've been using dropbox for a while and it's been going swimmingly, but in the recent few months there has been a change. When I open an excel document it used to open in 'Excel for the web' and was easily editable, but recently it's stopped loading properly. I'm trying to open it using Safari browser (my friend who is using Microsoft software isn't having the same issue), and now instead of the file loading it looks like this, but never loads: Can anyone help? I've restarted my computer and installed any updates. Many thanks.59Views0likes7CommentsThe first line when viewing comments gets blocked by tools.
When someone leaves comments and I select it to read the whole thing, a box with the emoji, resolve and other options appears, blocking the last few words in the first line of the comment. Is there a way to turn off that function? It's super annoying to have to deselect the comment to read the first line, then select again to see the rest.38Views0likes3CommentsUsing Dropbox for wedding
I am currently organizing my wedding. One of the ideas that I have is providing guests with a QR code that direct them to my dropbox. The intent is for them to take pictures on the big day and upload them to the file so that after the wedding I can transfer the pics to shutterfly to make a book. When I asked a friend to try the process she was able to get to the file and was able to look at the pics that I have in there. She however was not able to load any of her own into the account and got the notification " this folder is view only". Is there any way that I can change the settings so that everbody that access the QR code can upload pics?Solved8.7KViews0likes6CommentsJPG Files don't display in File Explorer Preview Pane
I found I had the same issue as this person... JPG Files don't display in File Explorer Preview Pane | The Dropbox Community Any JPGs in my dropbox would not show up in my Windows 10 File Explorer preview pane. All other folders on my PC worked fine. Copied the JPGs from my Dropbox folder to any non-dropbox location and they worked fine. SOOOO As per the suggestion in the above mentioned post, I deleted dropbox, reinstalled it, and re-sync'd all the same files. They work fine now. A pain, and no reason why this happens, but I wanted to share incase others run into this.Solved21Views0likes1CommentCan I get the actual creation date of the file, and not just the upload date?
I am not understanding how I can find out details on when a file was created. For example I have uploaded 714 PDF files today to a Folder PDF_11_10. When I look at the folder ALL the files show a modified date of today. Is there a way to get the actual creation date of each file and NOT just upload date. I have followed the instructions for 'file info' on Metadata but no luck. I would appreciate any solutions. Running on WIN11 with Dropbox PRO. Today's Dropbox web and Desktop interfaces for full search support just certain filetypes (.doc .docx .docm .gdoc .gsheet .jpg .paper .papert .pdf .png .ppt .pptx .pptm .gif .gslide .rtf .tiff .txt .xls .xlsx .xlsm .vtt). There are, though, other files that have the same structure as some of the formally admitted filetypes and there is no technical reason to exclude them from a full text search. This is the case of the files used by the scientific text processor LaTeX (.bib, .tex, bbl...). Many of them are technically identical to the .txt files. In fact the current full text search is able to find the searched text in some of the files with these extensions although it does not find all the files having the searched text in them. Despite this rather arbitrary behaviour, the technical support team indicates that the problem is simply that the filetype is not supported for full search by the system. Would it possible to formally include every file which is .txt compatible in the full text search?Solved362Views0likes5Comments
