Will deleted shared files (that I don't own) be permanently deleted after the recovery timeframe?

Hello all,

I have a question that I couldn't find a clear answer to after going through the forum. I hope somebody can help me.

I have a shared folder with my ex. He is the owner of the folder, and I have editing permission. I have deleted some old photos *shared files* that I want to be permanently removed from both my and his devices. When I go to Deleted Files tab to permanently remove them, I got a message that it is not possible and I should ask the owner to permanently delete instead.

I understand that only the owner of the shared files can permanently delete. However, my question is, if he (the owner) doesn't do anything with those files that I deleted (aka neither restore them nor click permanently delete them),  will those deleted files be permanently removed after the recovery period (30/180 days), by default?

Thanks a lot for your kind answers!

What you mention is correct; in general, if you’re not the owner of a shared folder, you can only permanently delete files that you own within that folder.

In case those files don’t get restored within your file recovery window (yours and your ex's), then they should be permanently removed from both your Dropbox accounts after that point.

I hope this clarifies things. Ping me though, if you need something else.
