Hey digitalbeachbum thanks for reaching out to us on the Dropbox Community.
Can you send us a screenshot of how the files in the folder appear for you? Because from your description, the icon on the files doesn't sound Dropbox related.
Also, you mentioned that you're trying to link the app to the Dropbox folder, which is no longer in your internal hard drive, right?
Have you tried reinstalling the Dropbox app and choosing the "advanced settings" during the installation process, to see if you can link the app to the existing Dropbox folder from there?
Keep in mind that you need to choose the parent folder of the existing Dropbox folder as the location for this new install.
