Mac OS - Files switching to online-only despite settings

Mac OS Sonoma 14.3 on a MacBook Pro M1.

I have the DropBox preference Sync > New file defaults set to Available Offline - yet a lot of files are shifting to Online? This happens even when setting files and folders manually to Offline.

My hard drive is getting to about 90% full, would this be why?

Is there a way of making files absolutely stay Offline?

Thanks!

Hey MattFoster, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community.

Indeed, if you're using the Dropbox for macOS on File Provider version, the app will detect that your hard drive space is low, so it will switch some of your files to online-only, to help you save space.

You can see more about the expected changes here.

If you'd like to keep your files available offline, try manually switching them, by selecting either the ones you need or your entire Dropbox folder, right-click on them and then switch them to available offline.

Let me know if you have any questions!

      Hi Hannah

      Thank you for the post.

I should have mentioned that this is happening even with files or folders that I manually switch to available offline.

For example, I have a current project in Pro Tools that I stop working on at the end of the day. Come in to my studio the next morning, go to open the session and it won't because the files have been switched to Offline.

I manually switch to Offline, continuing working. The following morning the files are again Offline.

      Thanks!

      Matt

Hey Matt! Sorry for jumping in.

Can you send me a screenshot of the syncing icons you see when making your files available offline, and one more showing the syncing icons you see the next morning (even if you don’t see any icons at all)?

I’d like to have a visual and go from there.
