Scanning to Dropbox from HP Printer?

Just bought an HP 8620 n the understanding that it can scan directly to dropbox (i.e. without me needing a computer in the process...) but it doesn't actually seem to be able to? (Does do Google Docs?).

  • If your HP MFC/Scanner supports direct (from the printer control panel) "Scan to Email" then yes you can "Scan to Dropbox" but in a somewhat convoluted way.

What you need to do is set up your HP device "Scan to Email" first, if you are not sure how you can watch this YouTube video for help.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOlw8-tjTHs

Now get yourself a Dropbox Email address if you do not already have one, you can get one here: https://sendtodropbox.com/

A page will open and a message will appear telling you that "Send To Dropbox would like access to its own folder, Apps › Attachments, inside your Dropbox. You should "Allow" so that all your Scanned Documents are sent to this folder in your Dropbox. You can also make further changes to this a little later in the destination attributes.

Once your registered you will be given an email address to email Scans to, it should look something like this 67a675a_xxxx@sendtodropbox.com. in this screen you can make changes to the assigned email address, date format, attributes to the destination list and other options.

Your now good to go, just enter the Dropbox Email Address you were given or you changed to, into the MFC's Address Book give it an easy name to remember like "Dropbox" and your ready.

Now using the printers Control Panel - Press "SCAN" > "Scan to Email" > "Select Email Address you wish to Send From" > "Select Email where you will send Scan To (DROPBOX)" > "Enter Subject" > Change any Scanning Settings before you Send" > "SCAN" and your done > You'll get a Confirmation if the Send has been "SUCCESSFUL".

As its something that HP have done on there own (i.e. they built the software etc to do it) I'd suggest speaking to them
