Hi there Nux - sorry to hear you're having issues with this.
Can you please clarify your computer's OS version and the version and status of the Dropbox desktop app as shown in your menu bar/system tray?
Are you by any chance running any 3rd party apps that might be monitoring your files in Dropbox, thus making them available offline?
Any additional information or screenshots are more than welcome!

I'm using Windows 11 Home 64x
Dropbox version is v216.4.4420
No, I'm not using 3rd party software of anykind
I really can't tell if I have more information, because I don't even know what is happening, but here are some screenshots.
Here I'm opening just one simple file, which is an image called trio:
I double click on this one to open, then, ALL pictures below start syncing and go offline
And like I said, the Dropbox tray starts indicating the files are syncing/ being downloaded to my PC, thus occupying hard drive space, which is exactly what I want to avoid.
