Hi from me as well, gd1235! I’m afraid this can’t be done; even if a user has more storage space than you and they’re sharing files/folders, they can’t grant you with more space from their own account to access them (you will need to acquire that space for your Dropbox account in a different way, either by upgrading it or by receiving more space via referrals).
However, there may be another workaround you can use in this scenario. If you just want to view their files, they can send you a shared link instead, which won’t affect your Dropbox space (unless you add the files to your account).
If you want to upload files to their Dropbox account after that, they can send you a separate file request instead, which won’t require any Dropbox storage from you either.

Hi Nancy Thank you very much - so for each file that I need to upload to his dropbox he will send me a single file request? so for example i need to upload each month his bank statements so even tho this upload it is to HIS DROPBOX that I have access as an editor - this uploading uses my storage

That's the part that you're getting wrong. When you're a member of a shared folder, you're NOT uploading to his Dropbox. The shared folder exists in YOUR account as well. Anything added to the folder syncs with his copy of the folder. If you use a File Request instead, you're uploading directly to his Dropbox and not using your own space.

As long as he keeps the file request open, you can use the same one each month to upload files to his account. If it expires or he closes it, he would need to create a new one for you to use.

make sense - how does he use the file request? will this feature allowed me to add file anywhere he gives me access to? ie. if he sends one file request i can freely drop off a file in whatever folder i want or do i have to get him to send me a file request for each folder? thank you very very much

Hi gd1235,
You can send or share this link to the one creating the file request for you to upload files that goes straight to their Dropbox account and doesn't use your space but theirs: https://help.dropbox.com/share/create-file-request
Then if you want to find out how to upload files when you get the file request invite , you can refer on this link for your perusal: https://help.dropbox.com/share/received-file-request
Hope this helps
