Can you check the plan tab in your account settings, and let me know what it reports there? Do you have any shared content taking up space in your account?
Or perhaps you have any active Backups enabled. Can you check that as well?

I have a similar problem if you don't mind me tagging along here (I'm new here and can't see anywhere to post a new question).
I have 9.25 GB of storage and am using 2.43 GB but just had an email saying my storage was nearly full. I have sent quite a lot of files in the past few days but have deleted them all at my end. Is this because the recipients haven't deleted the files at their end?

Hey KayH1! Do you mind sending over a screenshot of the email you received? If your email address is visible, make sure to mask it first.
You’ll also want to make sure that it was sent to the exact same email address as the one you see here.
Nancy, I don't have Dropbox installed on my computer (I always access my files on the website via my browser), so I'm not sure what it means about synching.
