Regular Files vs. Shared Files

I don't understand the difference between Regular Files and Shared Files. Of the 2GB that I am using, 1.2GB is Shared. Does that mean that Regular Files are ALL of my uploaded files and when I share those files it takes up space? If that is the case, is there a way to delete what I have shared in the past to free up space, w/o deleting any of the files that I originally uploaded?

    Hi Hi-Fi_Chrome_Dome,

No, when you share some file/folder to somebody, content of these files/folders appears as shared and not as regular content anymore. During share your own content no size is added, just moved from one category to other. Take in mind that when somebody else share something to you, that content is count to your capacity and added to shared content too (something that eats from your capacity)! Shared content is count to capacity of all sharing participants, no just to the owner. This is one Dropbox drawback.

As already clarified, that's not the case. Of course, you can always delete something that you don't need anymore (or move out of your Dropbox folder), so the content will not engage your account space. The same can be achieved with content somebody else shared to you; just unshare something that you don't need already.

    Hope this gives direction.
