Do you know what you are you doing ?????

Hey guys!
Thanks for showing your interest in Dropbox Vault.
To concentrate our efforts on further improving our existing security features and building new capabilities around advanced data protection, we’ve made the decision to discontinue Dropbox Vault.
From March 4th Dropbox Vault will no longer be available. If you’re currently using your Vault, that folder will automatically turn into a standard Dropbox folder, that doesn’t require a PIN to access. The files in your folder will remain the same.
I hope this clarifies!

11 days agoGuessing its a cost cutting exercise as Vault is an add on to their Plus and Pro packages. Its a shame as there are other Dropbox apps that needed to be culled first before Vault.
You would of thought they could of at least posted an explanation?
As I mentioned in another thread, Dropbox's record when it comes to data breaches hasn't been good so the extra layer of Vault security was a bonus.
With this Vault security layer now discontinued I will also be fully migrating over to another solution, probably OneDrive.
The trust in Dropbox's management has been taking hits with their dubious decisions lately, this is the final straw!
Edited to say ..... Found a Dropbox Support answer below from another forum...
Reads to me that they possibly have found security issues with their software and pulled it before Vault was compromised ....
"We discontinue Dropbox Vault primarily due to significant technical risks that could compromise the security we provide to our users. We want to concentrate our efforts on further enhancing our existing security features."

Thank you for replying, but this DOESN'T clarify the reason. You've just told us what we already knew.
Dropbox Vault already exists, and has many users who value it. Scrapping it will require you to do plenty of work to move all the files as well as this communication effort, and will also lose you customers.
Why not simply keep Vault as it is while also improving and building other security features?

Terrible decisions! First Dropbox Paper, and now Vault. You are killing the features that made you stand out! 😞

It feels like you've tossed the release in a blender and spit it back out like we wouldn't know any better. Give me ONE good reason reason why I should continue to trust the security of the rest of your platform if the single most secure layer is being discontinued?
Failing to think of a satisfactory reason, at least tell whatever stakeholder/PM that they have in essence rug pulled one of the only features that compelled me to keep my business with dropbox. Some files I don't want indexed by my OS or viewable if I pass someone my device, and Vault made that painless. Their choice to bail on the paying customers is why my money is moving to an different host.

I've been leaving this service renewing on autopilot for years now purely for this feature and laziness to change. Looks like I'm just got the impetus to create a little app to solve this problem for myself for free essentially. Silly decision
