Retain Vault!

There are so many reasons to continue Vault but a key one is that the Dropbox folder on a PC (and a Mac?) is not protected by Windows or iOs in any normal way. Vault made protection possible for key files.

But of course being able to protect the entire Dropbox folder on a PC or Mac would be an even better idea!

  • Hey guys!

Thanks for showing your interest in Dropbox Vault.

To concentrate our efforts on further improving our existing security features and building new capabilities around advanced data protection, we’ve made the decision to discontinue Dropbox Vault.

From March 4th Dropbox Vault will no longer be available. If you’re currently using your Vault, that folder will automatically turn into a standard Dropbox folder, that doesn’t require a PIN to access. The files in your folder will remain the same.

However, Dropbox is steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding your data.

Our applications and infrastructure are regularly tested for security vulnerabilities, and hardened to enhance security and protect against attacks.

There are also steps that you can take to enhance the security of your account.

    These steps include:

    I hope this clarifies!

HOW IS THIS "SOLVED" AND "MARKED AS A SOLUTION"

Why are we even having this foolish discussion and wasting our time and money ? We all bought this and I paid for a whole year and now the main reason I paid for DB was for a service that is being cancelled with only a 30 day notice ! We are begging and crying to have what we purchased. Honestly I am going talk to my Attorney. If the Vault is already up and running and even 1 customer complains why would it be cancelled. We are the few vocal ones - imagine the other people who are just quietly accepting being treated like this !!

Decided to comment on another post about Vault going away to show how angry I am about this decision...

I whole-heartily agree with the main post and all the comments. As a paying customer for 15+ years now, I am extremely upset and disappointed in this decision. It seems completely out of left field and without any consultation with paying customers as to what they think. It seems completely to be a purely cost-cutting measure at the expense of the security and better peace of mind of all their users.

It's just a slap in the face.

I hope Dropbox reconsiders this very ill-considered decision, or I (and likely others) may have to look for alternative solutions.

Just shows you what DB thinks of its customers !! All we are worth is a form letter reply.

I have been looking into Pcloud, Koofr, Synch and IceDrive

Worse decision ever.  Vault is the ONLY reason I kept Dropbox.  Has anyone found another provider with password protected files. If yes, I need it.  Please share.

Whatever you choose, if you decide to go elsewhere, not only read the full privacy policy and your rights, but also get the names of the third parties and find and read their privacy policies.  After doing this, search those parties for any data breaches. Cybersecurity News is a great source as well as many others.

I am not sure yet, but I am thinking a secure external drive(s) seems a viable alternative with password protection, and also a backup copy drive.  It maybe more costly at the beginning, but all these storage drive subscriptions add up to hundreds more, and there’s no guarantee they won’t get breached or change their rules like Dropbox just did.

I personally know dropbox will lose 4 paid customers after March 5 if they execute  this stupid decision.

I'm getting ready to cancel my Dropbox subscription after 15 years of being a subscriber.  I already have Microsoft OneDrive and it has its own Personal Vault that I was using as a backup to Dropbox, but I guess it will become primary soon.  Looking at PCloud for integration with MacBook Finder.
