I dare you to give a GOOD reason
I'll give you three to start with.
Financial - its simply too expensive to support XP any more. Being honest, how many on this thread are paying Pro users? I doubt very many at all. Why should Dropbox penalise the paying users of other OS's for them?
Security - XP is an unsupported system now. Networks an infrastructure are only as secure as their weakest links.
Precedence - OSx and iOS support was cut much quicker than XP has. So to keep things fair and equal older services need depreciating.
And they are not banning XP users. They are saying that you cannot access the software anymore. The website (with supported browsers etc.) will still work.
That's MEAN.
No. Its safe and makes good business sense. Do you not think they will have already looked at lost revenue from dropping XP vs. cost savings from less development costs? Especially when they already have data to back it up from OSx and iOS.
Also, although unconfirmed I did wonder if it was to do with Dropbox building its on structure to move off S3. I wondered if the new structure is not designed for XP and those current users are still on S3 (they've said before they are still using both, temporarily). It would make perfect sense then to drop XP and move everything to its own systems.
