You might see that the Dropbox Community team have been busy working on some major updates to the Community itself! So, here is some info on what’s changed, what’s staying the same and what you can expect from the Dropbox Community overall.
It would be super handy to edit txt files in the preview window that opens when you click a document in your dropbox in the browser. So I can quickly store some text without having the pain of downloading - editing-uploading
Just an idea :)

idea first described in 2015.
think that shouldn't be that hard to implement (you already integrated editibg of word files)?
is there any reason against this proposal? - donxNew member | Level 2
Please add this feature to edit text in browser, sometimes I use Chromebook, the only way I can access dropbox is through browser. Thanks

Dropbox Paper is nice but it's not as useful as just plain text editing since the .paper files are useless outside the Dropbox web interface. If I'm using paper I can't copy my Dropbox directory to a USB stick and have everything there: Paper documents are only available for the web interface, and I can't edit those files outside Dropbox. I can export to back them up but that's a pain. So I end up using plain text a lot.
Editing plain text right from the browser is something Nextcloud and others have had for a while. It's really a big value add for people with a lot of notes.

Guys, I loveD dropbox when it was just launched, it was one of the first of its kind, but now with all this inability to simply edit a txt file, just like in mobile version on android, I am thinking to switch to one drive. I don't want to move a file out of the vault, edit it with an ap on my pc and back to the vault. Sometimes it's a pain to edit it in the vault. It times out, it doesn't show up in the file explorer, it creates a conflicted file in the route directory, etc. So I decided to use online only version for the vault. And there, there is no txt editor. With all this pain I am going through, I decided to dedicate some time and explore if I can do the same with one drive. I just don't know if I have a paid version of onedrive, will they allow me to keep everything I have in the vault in case somebody gets into my phone? Or only 3 files?

I use text files quite often for various tasks. It would be great if there was a built-in, simple text editor for the desktop/web version of Dropbox. That way I access and edit information on my account remotely without having to download/upload the file. I looks like the iOS app can do this so having this available for the desktop version would be amazingly helpful. Thanks!
