Saving Paper docs to existing Dropbox folder structure/file-system.
Hi
A number of us have started using dropbox paper at work. We want to save documents that we create in paper to an existing Team folder but I can't see how to do this. Any ideas anyone?
- BethNew member | Level 2Same as what everyone is saying, so obvious, not being able to save it in our existing dropbox filing system makes it useless and we were excited to have a platform that we could all work at the same time. No "so and so is making changes","accept so and so changes" but you can't make changes until you do... Anyway, most importantly, when will this be added to Paper? Any rough timelines? Would like to know if I need to forget about Paper until next busy season. Thanks!

It's definitely a sad design and marketing choice not to be able to add your Paper documents inside your Dropbox file system.
The community has been consistently agreeing on this.
@Zed since you seem to be the company's voice in this discussion, I would like to address a couple of questions to you:
1. You invited the community several times to use the lower right Feedback button on Paper to share feedbacks, but this would be a solitary, unarchived method which would exclude the well functioning community driven hierarchy on topics. don't you agree that the forum is just a more efficient place for it?
2. You picked dovhyi's individual suggestion after many users agreed on the urgency of a simple Paper integration on Dropbox folder. Would you be able to give a specific feedback on this shared issue?
Finally, just an idea for a simple, first integration:
I would also just be happy to see my Paper document link inside the dropbox file system and when I click on it, that the browser would open the document in a new tab in the Paper environment.
Paper is a great product and integrated with Dropbox it would just make this whole system very competitive, i'm also willing to move from Gdrive.
- GreenalexHelpful | Level 5I am also willing to move from G Drive if they can integrate paper into existing Dropbox folder tree

I love Dropbox Paper but I think it needs to be an intigrated part of Dropbox. As it stands right now you can't add Paper files to your dropbox folders, they live in their own section of dropbox. Being seperate makes things very inconvenient when I'm working on projects trying to look at my to-do list and try to access my files. To me Paper should be more like a viewing platform, similar to how Dropbox handles viewing a PDF.

Yes, this would be quite helpful. Any plans for this in near future?

I have the same problem! Dropbox should do the same as Box they have boxnotes totally integrated with box cloud, they evan a desktop application for that

I agree and can imagine 2 ways to make Paper much more powerful.
1. When saving photos and other documents to a Drop Box folder, automatically insert that link (and preview, if possible) into a single Paper document assigned to that folder. This would create a chronological "log book" that could be later annotated to explain the purpose of each file and to add a way to navigate that DropBox folder.
2. Conversely, if it was possible to work from within Paper as a kind of diary or journal and very easily create and edit Word, Excel, etc. documents embedded within Paper (and saved automatically to a linked DropBox folder), again, it would be a much more intuitive way to integrate DropBox folders with Paper documents.

Hi Liz
Integrating Paper into the filesystem is something we are looking into. Out of curiosity, what are you trying to achieve by having your Paper docs in Dropbox? How does it help you?
We would love to hear your thoughts!

Dropbox is great for storing files, from docs to ppt to PDFs, but having a workig document within a folder would be great. For example. We are compiling bios for all of our speakers for a conference. We have a folder in DropBox with everone' sheadshots, but we are working on a bio document where we cut and paste everyone' s bios. Instead of downloading a word document, editing it and re-uploading, it would be great to integrate a paper document in that folder for ease of collaboration and having multiple people having access to the document for editing.

I've been thinking about the fact that you can't have a Paper document together with other documents in a normal folder. Because of this you need to maintain a separate folder strucutre for your Papers and invite people to them separatly.
What do you think about Paper being a sort of a document type instead of a completely separate feature (similar to how you can have both Word docs and Google Docs in a Google Drive folder)? That way you don't have to maintain a separate folder structure for your Papers, and you can share a Paper with other items simply by sharing a folder they are both in.
I can see a problem here with sharing folders as you would need to have separate settings for Paper files and other files perhaps. Opinions?

Tottaly agree.
It would be awesome if DP comes up with something like Notion.so in terms of organizing pages and files.

Please please do this! Come on, Dropbox, you should know better than this.

Today we have Dropbox folders and paper folders.
It would improve my workflow a lot if we consolidated or at the very least brought these hirarchies close to each other at the presentation layer.
Moreover, getting to folders in paper is very difficult and as a result even if I create a folder structure I forget where things are as it's not always in front of me.
Maybe both could be addressed with the help of the new dropbox app

This is a great idea. I think Paper docs also could be implemented as the separate folder on Dropbox.com.
Like we already have "Camera Uploads" folder, it would be awesome if new docs I'm creating will appear on the "Paper" folder. But then I can move them between any other folders within personal or team account.
Maybe something like this:
Thanks!

Dovhyi,
why seperate folder ?
imo it is better to leave the organisation of folder to the user, not the 'system'.
The only good way is to introduce a 'paper' extension, and mix paper-files with other files at locations choosen by user.
No?

Totally agree. Why paper isn't integrated directly into current Dropbox folders is baffling. Much too confusing for larger companies to ask employees to jump back-and-forth between team folder full of files and then into a separate interface for Paper docs.
We'll keep using txt and rtf files for now until this gets updated. Please don't force us back to G Drive :(

We should be able to file our Paper docs inside our Dropbox folders. For example, in a Dropbox folder, /Business/Sales, the sales team has files, and that sales team also has Paper documents. That means we also have to manage a separate Paper folder under /Business/Sales. Are we meant to mirror two separate folder structures for this? It's awful to maintain, and I think we will switch back to Google Drive, where our Docs are stored in one folder tree.
As much as we love Paper's UI (why we came to Dropbox), it's impossible to organize our files, and so if there are no plans to implement this fix, then we'll have to switch back to Google Drive / Google Docs.
- LusilDropbox StaffHey bcb1, thanks for posting your thoughts on this! A handy idea indeed, and for this reason, I’ve moved your post to the Share an idea section of our Community.I’d be more than happy to pass your comments along to the dev team for review. If you have any other ideas or questions, don’t hesitate to get back to us here.Have a great day ahead!

I think Paper is great and has a lot of potential. The two things I still need the most which the product does not have are:
1. Ability to save notes anywhere on your Dropbox file hierarchy.
2. Mobile app or mobile integration.
If I can create or edit a note in my phone while knowing it will be saved in an appropriate project file on my Dropbox account I think my entire digital life and work can be stored and done in Dropbox.
A note about point 1: I find it incredible that note-taking applications like Evernote and OneNote group their documents together under their own hierarchies, labels, tags etc - in essence a "group by file type" and not the more convenient "group by content". Imagine if all your Excel files had to live in Excel.
Allowing for tags and the ability to filter/search with tags would be nice too.
Congrats on the great work so far.

Me too! I was a huge Hackpad fan and now wanted to move to Notes for using with a team used to Dropbox rather than Google Drive. I just assumed I could save it to a dropbox folder! Please add this feature soon. Thanks :-)
