Saving Paper docs to existing Dropbox folder structure/file-system.
Hi
A number of us have started using dropbox paper at work. We want to save documents that we create in paper to an existing Team folder but I can't see how to do this. Any ideas anyone?

My DB subscription just expired, and based on the non-interaction of DB with its users, who in different threads have asked for this integration, I've decided to vote with my euro's and not renew.

Hey Dropbox Team,
here are another 7 people who would love to add Papers into Dropbox folders. The duplicate folder structures do drive us a bit mad.
Especially when we have written content (Paper) that is clearly attached to other files.
For example: A video script that we collaborate on in Paper, plus all video production files. That should all be in the same folder structure.
Thanks for listening

So it has been around two years and you can't have a DropBox paper document in a team folder?

I prefer Stijn's approach, but I share Adam's feelings. While this is a technical hurdle, thought should be put into the user experience. I simply do not use Paper because it would be a place where I would lose content if it is yet another bucket.

May I recommend you steal a computer engineer from Google? Sorry, it's hard to get over this issue. I only use Paper with one client now but would do so a lot more if the integration were to happen. As it is my loyalty cannot ever veer from Google/Drive/Docs. That is too bad because I actually like Paper. I like that it is so simple and minimal and it is refreshing to not feel like I'm in Office-land as I do when I use Google Docs. Unfortunately, functionality trumps most of the time and I hope that you make it your goal to maximize it.

I love using Dropbox paper and prefer it to google docs or anything else. However, I share the same concerns as stated above. More of a drag and drop interface or desktop interface integrated with regular Dropbox folders would be the icing on an already delicious cake.

Hi all,
Dropbox Paper allows you to download what you have written as a Markdown document which is kind of nice already.
I could use a functionality like Paper but I'm reluctant to invest my time & effort in it ... It's not the first time Dropbox depricated functionality (I still haven't forgotten about carousel)
That's why I would find it a good incentive to start using Paper on a day to day basis if my "Papers" would be automatically (so no download as ...) available as Mardown documents in my Dropbox Files ....
In the end I bought a Dropbox account to sync files .......
Tnx,
J

Hey there J (smetj) - sorry for the tardy response and I hope my message finds you well.
Thanks for taking the time to share your desire for more integration between the Dropbox application and Paper.
Since we’re actively tracking this and actively working on improving Paper, I’ve recorded this feedback for the team to inform the ongoing development of Paper.
Please let me know if you have any other feedback or questions. Thank you!

Coming from a Google Apps for Business environment, I'm used to create new documents within the folder structure.
I see that Dropbox allows me to create new Office files within a folder but not a new Paper doc. Is there a good reason why? I would like to have my team use Paper for notes, plans and other text-heavy documents instead of the bloated Word, but it's hard if the Paper option is perceived as less simple. Just the option to create a new Paper doc and place a link to that document in the Dropbox folder would do just fine.
1. Can I create a Paper doc (or link to a Paper doc) from within a Dropbox Folder?
2. If not, why?
3. What are best practices to work with Paper with a Dropbox folder structure?
- JayDropbox StaffHi Mikael, since Paper docs don’t have a specific format to them (unlike Word files which are docx), then they can’t ‘sync’ as such to your machine.Since the folders in Dropbox are synced to your machine, it isn’t possible to have Paper docs there, since those files would never sync to the computer, and vice-versa.Dropbox, where your files are stored, and Dropbox Paper should be seen as separate services, and can’t directly interact with each other like you wish them to. You can attach files from Dropbox into a Paper doc, and leave comments on those files which would appear in Dropbox, but this is the current extent of the link between the two.Hope this helps to clarify matters!

Hi Jay,
Thank you for the rapid response.
I can see your answer making perfect sense when talking about the synced folders on the desktop. My question was rather based on the Dropbox web interface.
Your final paragraph however explains it, that Paper and Dropbox are two separate services. From my perspective I sincerly hope that will not be the case in the future, since it would be a much better product to have Paper docs living side-by-side with legacy Office documents in Dropbox folders.

Add me to this request to consolidate Paper into the folder structure!

I work with all sorts of file types, not just documents. Usually graphics files. Can I really not place Paper docs in with my regular Dropbox file folder structure? Is this on the roadmap? Can it / will it happen soon?
- JayDropbox StaffHi Sam, since Paper docs aren’t actually files of their own, given that they have no filetype and don’t sync to a machine, currently it’s not possible to place them in the normal Dropbox structure. We are looking into ways to integrate Dropbox and Dropbox Paper together, though there is no timeframe as of yet, so I’ll add your voice to this request!

it's about the organization. I want the same folder structure to manage everything. docs and other files. I'm totally ok with editing the document in the cloud and not being able to work on it outside of the browser or offline, it's just having a link or a way to find it in the same structure. maintaining two folder structures is terrible.

An experiment.
I opened a Dropbox Paper Doc and copied the share link.
I then created a text file on my desktop and pasted the link into the text file.
I saved the text file as a PDF and placed it in a Dropbox folder.
When I open the PDF on my desktop and click the link it takes me right to the Paper document, HOWEVER if I open the PDF in dropbox in my browser and click on the link I get a 404 error.
I think I am onto something here in my efforts to link Dropbox paper and dropbox. But I'd love to know why the link will work from the PDF opened on my desktop but not when it's opened in Dropbox online.
I know it's a few more steps that I'd like but it does achieve the desired result (in part)
