Beta build
11 TopicsVery slow opening files and folder
Hi everyone, I'm using Dropbox (firmware n. 166.3.2831) on my gaming laptop running Windows 11. Everything run smoothly until some days ago, when Dropbox suddenly became very slow when clicking to open folder or file: it takes MANY seconds (10-15 seconds at least). This causes a huge slowdown in the user experience, I can't even work in these circumstances. Of course this is a problem related to the Dropbox folder only, local folders run as smooth as they should. How can I fix that? Thanks. EDIT: apparently there's a conflict between Dropbox and iCloud for Windows; deleting the latter, Dropbox app works.Solved9.1KViews4likes18CommentsPictures Backup feature broken in latest macOS beta
Updated to the latest macOS 15 beta and the Backup configuration I had for Dropbox (to only backup ~/Pictures) seems to have been disabled. I don't see that folder in Dropbox.com anymore either - appears that the files all got wiped from the cloud storage as part of disabling the backup. It is just a backup so not horrible (photos are still in iCloud), but obviously can't depend on the backups if the cloud also gets deleted. But maybe I'm missing something. I tried to re-enable Backup for the ~/Pictures folder, but I get an error message that it couldn't be setup. So not sure how to proceed. Understood that betas will have bugs, so this post is more of a heads-up, or check if anyone knows a workaround. My biggest worry is that disabling the setting on a Mac seems weird to just wipe the data from the cloud, unless the user is asked (hopefully more than once.)273Views0likes1Comment"Send Feedback" is broken
When I click "Send Feedback" in the Dropbox menubar icon, in order to file a bug report, the app makes my web browser open: https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-for-macOS-12/cmp-p/grouphub%3ADropboxforMacOS12 which redirects immediately to: https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-for-macOS/cmp-p/grouphub%3ADropboxforMacOS12 which then gives me this error: Dropbox v189.3.8308 macOS 13.6.2 (Ventura, ARM)Solved1.3KViews0likes7CommentsSyncing data stuck for weeks (beta M1)
I use Dropbox on two Mac M1 machines. 459 files do not sync (stuck in this state for >2 weeks). Problem: I don't have access to my recent files. As a small business owner, I can't rely on having access to the data I need if taking my laptop with me. Further, I often get error messages: either a) unable to start dropbox at the start (starting it manually, yes) b) file not found if I open pdfs in preview. The second time I clicked on them, they opened after a long time - while I marked them all for download to the machine. I think about transitioning to GDrive if there is no fix for this. I need to rely on the basic function of Dropbox and pay for this, but it does not work with the beta anymore. What I have done: *quit dropbox * restarted the machine * deinstall dropbox + restart + new install5x >> same problem additional info: I use Dropbox private plus Dropbox folder /Users/USER/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox Use of latest beta version (installed months ago, should have indexed by now 😉 Machine M1 Pro 2021 M1 Max 32GB Ventura 13.2 (with Dropbox problems) Machine M1 Pro 2021 M1 MacMini 16 GB 1TB Ventura 13.2 (without Dropbox problems)Solved2.7KViews0likes10CommentsHigh memory usage on Mac M1
Hi, I've just installed my first M1 iMAC and entered the Dropbox beta program. I need to add that I run an Intel base MB Pro in parallel and I've entered the beta program there as well. So far everything went fine, Dropbox runs Apple nativ and functionality is as expected (well known from the past). Checking memory usage on the M1 Mac made me wondering. 7,4GByte!! After rebooting the machine it came down to 750Mbyte but nearly a day later its up again to 1,5Gbyte and is constantly increasing. On the Intel MB Pro, everything fine and smooth. Memory consumption around 700Mbyte & constant. Does anyone experience similar memory issues on M1 MAC's?Solved3.9KViews1like21CommentsUpdates on Backup Beta — When/if does it become a permanent feature, or any known issues?
I'm a longtime Dropbox user, went thru the process of the legacy backup solution on my primary Windows 10 pc, and after initial problems it has been stable for literally years now. However, for other computers in my household I would rather avoid creating a non-standard pc, i.e. leave the system files (documents, desktop, etc.) in their default locations. I have installed Backup Beta on one W11 pc, and so far no issues. My question is when will Backup Beta be deemed a permanent part of the Dropbox family? I understand the company probably can't give an exact date, but sometime in 2023? I'd rather not become dependent on it and have it radically changed or cancelled. Also, what are the recognized issues with Backup Beta, i.e. bugs?
