I’ve just found out when you change Laptop / Desktop you can’t continue to use the same external hard drive with Dropbox Backup. This is absolute madness. If you want to continue to use that hard drive with Dropbox Backup you have to re upload the full HD. I have 2TB used on a 4TB external SSD and I’ve just changed to a new MacBook. I’m having to spend three days uploading / backing-up all my data again just to continue to use that same drive with the new device. What a waste of energy, electricity, data and bandwidth. For no reason. My old backup is sitting there in my account with all the same data and I just have to re-upload 2TB of the exact same files for no reason other than Dropbox can’t set up a way to re-link an external hard drive on on a new system. I can’t believe this is the current state of affairs for this service.557Views2likes8CommentsIssue restoring a backup from Dropbox down to my computer
Dear dropbox, This is my first time using this service, even though I have heard about it for a long time. My PC was recently compromised so I had to use some sort of online backup service, as I couldnt use normal Windows backup. So I backed up nearly 200gb of my essential folders such as dekstop downloads etc. Upon having a freshly installed Windows 11, I try now regain my files and put them back onto my device. But what am I met with? Absolute brain damage. 1. Why on earth is it so difficult and confusing, to simply DOWNLOAD THE FILES BACK TO THEIR RESPECTIVE FOLDERS, that they literally synced from. Why is it I try to restore my backup, and it tells me its going to create another bloody backup for what???? Then instead of downloading my files back to my local folders, it creates more backups, syncing for no reason like its under the influence of class A drugs, and is confusing my applications. For instance as I produce music, I used FL studio. Because of this amazing service, FL studio now has not [removed] Idea what files are what, in fact now im struggling to get the application to load, because of some stupid ass sync mark on the application. And if I DONT sync them they literally wont run. I click on the files and select "make available offline" repeatedly and nothing happens. As you can probably tell I'm close to losing it. Please can anyone give me advice as I simply just want to take my files FROM dropbox, BACK to my computer where they are "syncing" from, because apparently dropbox is incapable of such basic asks. I noticed Dropbox Backup today, looks good for my needs as a long time solo user w/ a 2TB account. Selected documents and music folders in my Mac user account, all looked OK then....nothing, no movement. Stuck at 0% even though it says updating 2,367 files and 1 sec remaining. Nothing, nada. I've rebooted, removed the external drive I wanted to also backup, re-installed Dropbox, no other cloud service-connected files are present in anything I want to backup, tried automatic backups on and off....but nothing. The 'Backup now' is also greyed out whatever I do. I've looked at various Db help pages but nothing. Any ideas appreciated. Also why no Backup label? Hi I want to wipe my Mac over the coming week in order to sell it on. I have a lot of files in dropbox backup that are from this particular Mac which I don't want to lose. How do I keep these files? It's my understanding that if I unsync the Mac the files will come off dropbox backup...is that correct? Is there something else I can do before? Thank you GK24Views0likes3CommentsBackups are taking up space in my account but cannot be found anywhere
My Dropbox shows that over 1GB of space is taken up by backups, but I can’t find any trace of them to delete. I’ve checked the web version, the Windows app, and the mobile app, but there’s no sign of any backups anywhere. The most frustrating part is that without a subscription, I can’t even contact support, and I’m almost certain I’ve gone through every possible setting to locate these backups. Yet, there’s absolutely no indication of where they are or how to remove them. Has anyone encountered this issue before? Is there any workaround to find and delete these invisible backups? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!Solved37Views0likes4CommentsDropbox backup uploads hidden folders, even though I only selected one folder to back up.
I want to back up folder on my PC. The folder is less than 1 GB. However dropbox adds these two hidden folders to the backup. They are very large and I do not want to have them backed up on my Dropbox. Is this a bug, or is there a way to tell dropbox not to include these two folders in my backup? Here is a view of my backup. I only selected the Assets folder to be included in the backup, but for some reason the .git and .vs (hidden folders) gets included in the backup as well. Any help on this topic is very much appreciated.20Views0likes3CommentsI can't see the folders I want to back up with Dropbox Backup
I can't see my computer directories just the preselected ones like "desktop" The animated logo is confusion and seems to show you can select files - I can't even see the directories. I see that this is a common problem in the forum and I saw the instructions to get the latest version of the backup. No change!42Views0likes8CommentsCan we have more folder options like custom folders or sub-folders to add to Computer Backup?
Right now, the automated backup option in Dropbox allows me to sync my Documents, Desktop and Downloads folders. By far the biggest - and most important - folder on my computer is the Music folder though. I can imagine for other people it's Pictures. Could we have a way to automatically backup those folders too? To be really ambitious: would we be able to clone our computer on Dropbox? I used to have an Apple Time Machine that allowed you to do just that. If your computer broke down or was stolen, you could buy a new one, let it download the clone, including not just your documents but your applications and presets too, and you'd be good to go! Please let Dropbox be the new Time Machine.74KViews239likes159CommentsNew Computer - all Word Docs Corrupt
I have set up a new computer. Downloaded the Dropbox desktop app, same as previous computer. I am running Office365. Now all Word documents that are stored in DP are showing corrupted. I can login to DP directly and open the document but when I try to open through my DP shortcut on file explorer. Word docs will not open directly. The solution has been to open the document from DP and then re-save it on the computer in DP. So I still have access to the docs but it's very inconvenient. Is there a solution that would allow my documents to all update at once and be available again from the file explorer shortcut?13Views0likes1CommentDropbox Backup says syncing 75,000 files but i don't have that many, constantly going up
Hi i'm trying to backup my external hard drive to dropbox backup. It's constantly going up and the time doesn't change. I've reinstalled & relinked, deleted old backups. But nothing has seemed to help with the issue. The file count just keeps going up18Views1like1Comment
