Dropbox Rewind
90 TopicsOption to go back to a specific time, not just a date in Dropbox Rewind
I love the rewind feature, it has saved me multiple times but it's usability is horrible. I use dropbox as my working folder for development work, so in a matter of minutes there can be thousands of modified files. If I want to rewind to let's say one hour earlier, this is practically impossible. The only option right now is to scroll though the list of modified files in the rewind side panel, few files at a time, it takes so long to do this that the only option is to rewind to an earlier day. Why can't there simply be an option to select a time to rewind to? Its incredible how such simple features are not obvious to the drobox user interface developers39Views1like3CommentsIf I rewind a folder, will a removed member regain access?
A user who should have not had access to a folder any more went in and deleted a bunch of files/folders within a core folder in my Dropbox. I am planning to use Rewind to restore folders so I can properly backup the data. I have already removed access to the root folder for the user who should no longer have had access. If I initiate a rewind of the folder, will the user gain access to the restored/rewinded files? It should not matter - as I will promptly remove access again - but I just want to plan accordingly and act rapidly if I need to. And to be clear - I know that if I do a "Restore" instead of a Rewind, that the person WILL be given access again. But it is my understanding that Rewind operates differently. Hello community, Seems like I am not the only one. Accidentally deleted a large critical directory (19GB) on my local machine and managed to stop the sync completing fully. Tried on the web browser Rewind, move files to a different directory, physically moving the files that were deleted (in the Deleted Items folder) back to another folder, remove desktop app and reinstall and basically anything to stop / halt the process. Contacted 'Support' but no reply as yet. The latest error: 1 of 3: Pick a day to get started Activity: this week There was an internal Dropbox error, but we can still help you use Rewind. Contact support No joy so far and wondered if anyone had a hack/workaround to resolve this. Very distressing and time consuming as I am sure it has been for others that have experienced the same! 🤯😵💫 Thanks for your help / support in the meantime. 🙏50Views0likes4CommentsShared files have been deleted, and I want to Rewind them.

We are just running tests to understand how to recover data if something were to infect our files. I would like to use Rewind as an admin but it is not an option for me What needs to happen for me to have that option. I am an Admin and rewind settings are for only Admins to have permission29Views0likes7CommentsDifferences & benefits of syncing the Desktop folder vs backing it up?
I just saw and turned on the backup option... I've had the primary my pc/desktop folders UNSYNCED because it seemed redundant from all my primary files/folders I keep within dropbox already but.. The backup I noticed has a rewind feature which may be enough of a benefit, if im understanding it correctly to keep this enabled...ie if i screw something up on the fly while working...i can go in there and rewind whatever file/folder to recover the mistake? That said, is there a separate reason to keep the pc/desktop folder syncing as well? Heres screenshots of both settings for reference: https://ibb.co/8YLy9pJ https://ibb.co/9rBtKy2 Thanks42Views0likes1CommentHow can I restore my account to a version with older files?
I have the basic dropbox on two computers - say Desktop and Laptop. Due to a Desktop restore from Idrive cloud backup my dropbox on Desktop has updated with old folders/files which were previously deleted or modified and a sync operation up to the max memory allowed in basic account has occured (dropbox stopped sync as memory got full) so now I have incorrect contents on the Web dropbox. I cannot use the rewind facillity as its a basic account (tells be to go buy an upgrade if I try and rewind a folder}. To get back to my dropbox before it got accidentaly updated with old stuff, my idea is to to uninstall dropbox from Desktop and delete the local dropbox folder. My Laptop was not turned on at the time so that holds the correct Dropbox contents. If I now log into my dropbox web account via a browser and delete all files and folders in the web account and then turn on the Laptop, will the dropbox on my Laptop Sync/upload to the dropbox account and effectively recreate the correct contents. on the Dropbox Web account. I can then re install dropbox on the Desktop and the dropbox will now download from the Web and be correct on the Desktop. Will this work please? Hi - One of our employees deleted a whole folder accidentally which is where we normally move, add many files daily. When I tried to use rewind it is giving us an error that Rewind is not active and needs to contact support. How do we get it activated so we do not have to restore all the files/folder we deleted before. Thanks in advance!241Views0likes5Comments
