Vault termination
It seems like Dropbox is about to do it again. After removing the strong integration with Google Docs, causing many customers to all of a sudden have to work with links instead of documents, Dropbox is now planning for the termination of Vault (end of March '25). Did you like the function that allowed you to keep some files extra safe in a fully encrypted and PIN-locked container on your dropbox ? Yes ? Well tough for you! Remarkably, Dropbox now claims it will automatically move the files you have stored in your vault to a normal folder on your regular dropbox. Oh really? I guess that means Dropbox has full access to my vault then, and can just move files around as they see fit ? That is quite alarming for a functionality that is supposed to be fully encrypted. Really Dropbox, this is NOT how you obtain customer satisfaction or loyalty. I've been using your service for about 20 years now, but I'm actively checking out alternatives.Solved1.2KViews13likes28CommentsHow can I keep my files secure without Dropbox Vault? Any alternatives?
Hi to all the community! I have just received an e-mail from Dropbox telling that the "Vault" folder/service is going to be discontinued from March the xxth (can't remember the exact date). Hate this, because my tranquility depends on it. My proceeding: -Upload a folder every week with my works. Open Vault, move the uploaded folder to it, close DB. So the folders with my works are (were) protected from any kind of attack (like encrypting my local PCs). My thoughts were that if my PCs suffer an encrypting attack, dropbox files would be updated with the encrypted version so they would be useless. Am I right? After the Vault disabling I have thought an alternative: To make read only (and "unable to delete") the folders I want to prevent any kind of attack. Is there any way to achieve this? TIA!208Views0likes3CommentsFeedback on Vault being terminated
I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding the decision to discontinue Dropbox Vault. This feature has been an essential part of my workflow, offering me an extra layer of security and peace of mind for my most sensitive files. While I understand that Dropbox has cited technical risks as the reason for this change, I believe that eliminating a feature valued by many users without providing a comparable alternative undermines the trust we place in this platform for safeguarding our data. For many of us, Vault was more than just a folder—it was a secure space that enhanced the overall value of using Dropbox. I sincerely hope Dropbox reconsiders this decision or, at the very least, introduces new security features that provide a similar level of protection and user control. It would be reassuring to know that Dropbox remains committed to meeting the diverse needs of its users. Thank you for considering this feedback. I look forward to hearing more about how Dropbox plans to address these concerns moving forward.30Views1like1CommentRetain Vault!
There are so many reasons to continue Vault but a key one is that the Dropbox folder on a PC (and a Mac?) is not protected by Windows or iOs in any normal way. Vault made protection possible for key files. But of course being able to protect the entire Dropbox folder on a PC or Mac would be an even better idea!Solved148Views6likes4CommentsPlease don't deprecate Dropbox Vault.
PLEASE reconsider discontinuing Vault. I really like and use the feature. I remain logged in on a few devices and enjoy that ease of functionality. However, there are some types of files that I prefer to protect a little extra. Yes, I could further encrypt, but that adds extra steps. Please Keep Vault!Solved45Views1like1CommentKeep The Vault Please!
Very Dissatisfied At Hearing About The Vault Being Discontinued. The Vault is an extremely handy extra security feature, adding another layer of security. I’m very dismayed to hear that Dropbox, has astonishingly, come to the decision to drop this feature! It makes zero sense. I hope that the company will reevaluate this shocking decision and keep the Vault in play. Many Thanks, Edmond121Views2likes2CommentsKeep Vault, and prevent it from being deprecated.
This is a single competitive advantage that Dropbox has that other competition didn't have. This has been successfully used. There have been two failures: Not allowing individuals to purchase above 4TB. This is a huge miss. I want my drives to be backed up. A 4TB space is quite easily filled up. Vault: One of the biggest competitive advantages for your company (Dropbox) Why is this going away? Why was this the decision? Please share this with the community.Solved98Views5likes2CommentsHow can I add files to my Dropbox Vault?
