Hi there, I have only been able to find examples opposite of my situation so I apologize if this is frequently asked. Basically, I have around 200gb + and counting everyday of files in a shared company Dropbox with our work emails. I made the mistake of downloading the app and syncing the files to my Mac before realizing what I had done. Since then I have signed out from the application and uninstalled it but still have the Dropbox folder of everything (I believe up to that day) on my computer. Am I safe to delete this folder now that I have deleted the application? I want to make sure it doesn't remove all of the shared files from the company dropbox that others need. The folder on my hard drive says it was last modified over a couple weeks ago which I believe is when I un-synced the application, and there have been things posted to dropbox since then. I appreciate any help or insight I can get here, thanks.Solved20KViews0likes13CommentsPaths to files on my desktop have changed
I have uninstalled the DropBox, but it is still affecting the location of files on my desktop. For example, the path to files is: C:\Users\user\Dropbox\PC\Desktop\[file name], instead of C:\Users\user\Desktop\[file name]. What can be done to get rid of 'Dropbox\PC\' from the path? P.S. My OS is Windows 10 Pro x64 version 22H2 (OS build 19045.2965).Solved5.3KViews0likes41CommentsError when copying anything from Dropbox (monterey, 2020 m1 MBP)
Whenever I try to copy a folder from the local Dropbox folder to another folder in my Mac, I get this error: "The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8062)." Does anyone know why this happens? I haven't messes with permissions or anything. Copying from any other folder works normally, and older folders in Dropbox are copied normally, only recent ones cannot be copied. EDIT: Just as strange, when I compress those given folders, I can move the compressed files outside of the Dropbox folder.4.7KViews0likes22CommentsFeedback about the file path change
I've read a couple threads on here, and I've seen the response about how "each team member will have a personal folder by default, which contains their own personal files/folders, as well as files that have been shared with them." The next time another idea or suggest comes through that involves changing a folder path - take it back to the drawing board. I could think of at least two other ways that 'personal folders' could have been implemented while maintaining the existing structure - and that was only in the past day since this fiasco started. The change has disrupted business. Let me give you some data points to include for future test cases to use. 1) Quick Access broke. Easy enough fix.. unpin and re-pin after successfully syncing up. 2) Excel links that were direct paths broke - literally have to go through each excel file and update links manually. I have a PowerShell script that does this.. but anyone without that script will have to manually update the links. 3) Out of 25 users, only 2 had a successful transition with the folder rename via their Dropbox Update. About 10 involved shutting down Dropbox because it was either stuck on database upgrade or starting. Had to restart the computer, and then allow Dropbox to run to get it to successfully transition. Also - when this happened, it didn't put it back where the folder was originally but ended up defaulting to the User's folder in Windows. The remaining workstations involved deleting Dropbox altogether and reinstalling manually. Any work that was done during the day was completely wiped. My client is furious and rightly so.Solved2.2KViews4likes4CommentsWould moving my Dropbox folder to an SSD have much improved performance over a HDD (both internal)?
Hello, I love Dropbox, so much so that anything that I know I want to keep forever, I put on Dropbox. I use it for pretty much everything... mostly comprised of small documents, pictures, my music (I buy and curate my own local library, I'm of that generation lol) - all currently totalling ~500GB spread over ~170,000 files. The drive my Dropbox folder is stored on is just a basic 5400 Western Digital 2TB hard drive that I've had for years. For a spinning drive, it has served its purpose until the last few months, I've noticed its starting to be a bit of a choke point for my PC. I edit files out of the Dropbox folder in a couple of applications at the same time. I've noticed things being a little sluggish lately, especially when Dropbox is doing anything...and even loading directory contents can take like 10 seconds for a folder that has 10 files in it. Would moving the Dropbox folder onto a SATA SSD with a DRAM cache yield much overall performance improvement? Would it drastically increase the speed in which indexing happens? Both when rebooting (I shut my PC down every night when finished with it) and just general syncing while in use? On paper it seems like it's an obvious answer...Yes it will be faster, but computers are just outright weird sometimes and I've found the most obvious answer turns out to be untrue. So before I spend £200 on an SSD I thought I'd get some feedback? Much appreciated. Edit: Now that I think about it, my motherboard has a second M.2 that I could put an nVME drive into. nVME and SATA SSD's are so similarly priced that going that route might yield even better results, assuming there are any?2.1KViews0likes4CommentsMoved files out of Dropbox folder
Hello all, I recently moved some of my Dropbox files from the local Dropbox folder to another folder on my computer. The files I moved disappeared and it appears I have no way to recover. Since I moved these files via the local Dropbox folder, I see now deletion history or any of the file moves in the event log. Is there a way to get Dropbox to restore or pay for rewind to recover the files?1.3KViews0likes1Comment
