Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could customize our Dropbox folders to make them more visually appealing and easier to organize? I think adding more options to personalize folders could make a big difference, and I’d love to hear what others think about this idea! Here are a few features I’d suggest: Folder Colors: Imagine being able to color-code your folders—so much easier to spot what you need at a glance! Custom Icons: A simple icon, like a music note for your playlists or a book for your eBooks, could make folders feel more intuitive. This icon could be applied to the already existing folder image, or replace the folder with just an icon. Upload Your Own Images: Personalize your workspace with photos or unique images as folder covers—practical and fun! These tweaks wouldn’t just look great; they’d make organizing and navigating files so much smoother. Plus, other platforms already offer similar options, and it would be awesome to see Dropbox join in! If you think these features would be helpful, let’s make some noise and get Dropbox to consider them. What are your thoughts? Do you have other ideas for folder customization? Let’s chat in the comments and show the Dropbox team how much we’d love this!3Views0likes0CommentsAdd Folder Sorting by Creation Date
I would like to suggest a feature that could greatly enhance the functionality and usability of Dropbox: the ability to sort folders by their creation date in addition to the existing sorting options. Why This Feature is Needed: 1 Efficient Drive Management: When cleaning out or reorganizing storage, sorting folders by their creation date provides a clear timeline of when content was added, helping users identify older, potentially obsolete folders. 2 Improved File Organization: This feature would allow users to understand the chronological context of their data, which is especially useful for archival purposes. 3 Consistency Across Systems: Many file managers (e.g., Finder on macOS and File Explorer on Windows) already offer this option. Having it in Dropbox ensures a seamless workflow between local and cloud storage. Feature Details: Add "Creation Date" as a sortable column in both the web interface and desktop applications. Ensure folders can be sorted by creation date, just like individual files. Include this option in APIs for developers who work with automated tools or scripts. Potential User Benefits: Faster identification of outdated data, leading to more efficient storage usage. Enhanced organizational tools for power users and businesses managing extensive files and folders. Thank you for considering this request. I believe this feature would add significant value to Dropbox and make it even more indispensable for users like me who rely on it for efficient file management. Please let me know if further details or examples would be helpful.15Views0likes3CommentsEmojis instead of folder icons
Customisation to folder icons on Dropbox, so if i've got a folder called "Music" I could choose a Music related emoji (i.e. ) instead of having the default blue Dropbox folder icon ( ) next to the folder called "Music". It would help differentiate multiple folders and allow more customisation options?182Views0likes2CommentsAsk for user confirmation of deletion when the Dropbox folder can't be found at boot
Hello, I just had the desktop app unwantedly delete over 12,000 files (30GB). I was able to undelete them all, but had to wait for them all to download from the cloud again. What happened was as follows: Starting configuration: SSD 1 is my system drive and contains my Dropbox application. SSD 2 contains my Dropbox folder. SSD 3 is brand new and empty. (1) I migrated Windows from SSD 1 to SSD 3. (2) I booted from SSD 3. Everything seemed good. Dropbox started automatically, running from SSD 3. (3) I moved my Dropbox folder from SSD 2 to SSD 3, did other stuff, then hibernated the computer. (4) The next day I accidentally booted from SSD 1, which wasn't wiped or changed during the migration. The old installation of the Dropbox app started automatically, found that its local files on SSD 2 were all gone**, and immediately synced this information to the cloud. I figured out what was happening and stopped it after about 1 minute. (5) I booted back up from SSD 3. That copy of the Dropbox application contacted the cloud and then started deleting all my local files as fast as it could. ** At this point in the process, the application should tell the user that all the local files inexplicably disappeared while the computer was off, and ask for confirmation that it was intentional.1.8KViews0likes2CommentsMake it possible to hide/collapse the Dropbox context menu options on macOS.
Please allow for us to turn off the Dropbox context menu on MacOS Sonoma. At the very least place all actions under one sub-menu so the one application does not take up a full 1/3 of my pop-up context menu.354Views0likes3CommentsDefault Drive Options
For Windows users, when installing Dropbox the user has no option but to allow DropBox to sync data with the C drive. Many Windows based PCs are now shipped with a smaller C drive (for apps) and a larger D drive (for data). Many folks also use external drives for data. Please give users the option to choose which drive they wish to sync with. I recently had to reset my PC. When I re-installed DropBox, I wasted about 2 hours syncing, resetting the default drive and re-syncing. Thanks, James797Views0likes4Comments
