I'm trying to use Dropbox in a "Windows 11 Pro" virtual machine (under Parallels) on Macbook M1 (Apple silicon). When I attempt to install, I get an error message "Couldn't start Dropbox. Your device is not compatible with this version of the Dropbox app." It states that I could use Windows 11 in S mode, but I can't be restricted to S mode. I installed Dropbox a month ago on the Mac (Ventura) side, and it installed (although it's awkward). I write some of my own apps (C# .Net) and need to have stable locations for many Dropbox files. I just installed the newest version of MacOS Dropbox but it conceals the drive locations of files in a way that wrecks the programmatic access from the Windows side. I therefore uninstalled Dropbox from the Mac side am now trying to install it on the Windows side. I've used Dropbox happily for over a decade, but this has me stumped. Any help is most welcome. ThanksSolved12KViews0likes26CommentsDropbox on Windows 7 - unable to login at system start
Suddenly Dropbox (since couple of versions - my latest is 195.4.4995) stopped to login automatically on system startup. Greyed out icon is available in system tray but Dropbox cannot login. I need manually close it and run it again to start. I uninstalled it and installed fresh version but the output is the same... Any ideas how I can fix this inconvenience?Solved11KViews0likes23Comments"Dropbox cannot start / Dropbox ran into a connection issue" error (macOS Monterey)
Hi, Dropbox app used to load at startup and work smoothly on my Mac but since a few weeks Dropbox can’t load at startup, giving the following error dialog: "Dropbox cannot start /Dropbox ran into a connection issue" I click OK and get another error dialog: "Couldn't start Dropbox. This may be a temporary error. Please restart Dropbox. For more information, click the help button.” so I get the error log (see below) and click OK. After these steps I’m always able to open Dropbox app from the Applications folder and everything works fine. So, my issue is only at startup time, when some sort of "connection issue” happens. Please be aware that I’ve already done an advanced re-install (twice!) and all the necessary Accessibility/Full Disk Access/Files and Folders settings are ok. Could you help me? currently on Fedora 38, using dropbox installed from Fedora 38 RPM at https://linux.dropbox.com/fedora/38/x86_64/ Observed behavior: Dropbox hangs on "starting"' Theory: there is something in my Dropbox folder that is hanging Dropbox. Tried: Dropbox hangs on "starting". Originally in Manjaro, around May 1, it began to hang when started. Tried fresh reinstall of Dropbox, then fresh reinstall of Manjaro. Once I installed Dropbox on a fresh system, it pulled in all the files without a problem, but when I rebooted, I got the "starting" message again. I thought it might be the maxhandles parameter so set that, but no change. Rolled back to a fresh install from backup to pre-install state, including config files and no Dropbox folder that I installed and had working until reboot. That still hung on "starting...." Deleted Dropbox folder, config, and app, from my home folder as per https://help.dropbox.com/installs/uninstall-dropbox, Installed Fedora 38 and Fedora 38 dropbox version from https://linux.dropbox.com/fedora/38/x86_64/, and once I followed the instructions to install topicon to get an appindicator, I was able to set selective sync so it would not download everything, but it froze on starting. Reboot led to same result. * full remove of dropbox, including Dropbox folder, install from fedora nautilus dropbox rpm at * install rpm through software gui, it updates itself and starts up, starts syncing everything. no app indicator shows., so no way to get to prefs for selective sync. * reboot. Dropbox starts automatically, app indicator shows, but stuck on starting again.Solved4.2KViews0likes21CommentsCan't open the Dropbox app after the user folder name changed

Hi there, I did get a new MacBook Pro with a Silicone M1 Pro chip the other day. The new MacBook is running OS Ventura 13.1 Used my last time machine backup to migrate my data from the old Macbook with an Intel Chip. Now Dropbox won't launch/properly connect. Whenever I do launch the app form the "Porgrams" folder, the app icon does appear in the upper menu bar, but I cannot access any option in the pull down menu (e.g. Log In, Settings, Help). Here's what I already did in hopes of solving the issue, but did not help: 1) I did a reinstall with the latest stable built Dropbox 163.4.5456.arm64, via offline installation. 2) I have given Dropbox complete access to my hard drive. Here's the protocol given by the app after terminating bn.BUILD_KEY: Dropbox bn.VERSION: 163.4.5456 bn.constants.WINDOWS_SHELL_EXT_VERSION: 57 bn.is_frozen: True machine_id: b6cd7fdd-7975-5ed8-84d8-730aa5fd3f27 pid: 4984 ppid: 1 uid: 501 user_info: pwd.struct_passwd(pw_name='Martin', pw_passwd='********', pw_uid=501, pw_gid=20, pw_gecos='Martin Liebl', pw_dir='/Users/Martin', pw_shell='/bin/bash') effective_user_info: pwd.struct_passwd(pw_name='Martin', pw_passwd='********', pw_uid=501, pw_gid=20, pw_gecos='Martin Liebl', pw_dir='/Users/Martin', pw_shell='/bin/bash') euid: 501 gid: 20 egid: 20 group_info: grp.struct_group(gr_name='staff', gr_passwd='*', gr_gid=20, gr_mem=['root', '_serialnumberd']) effective_group_info: grp.struct_group(gr_name='staff', gr_passwd='*', gr_gid=20, gr_mem=['root', '_serialnumberd']) DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH: None cwd: '/' real_path='/' mode=0o40755 uid=0 gid=0 parent mode=0o40755 uid=0 gid=0 HOME: '/Users/Martin' appdata: '/Users/Martin_1/.dropbox/instance1' real_path='/Users/Martin_1/.dropbox/instance1' mode=0o40700 uid=501 gid=20 parent mode=0o40755 uid=501 gid=20 dropbox_path: '/Users/Martin/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox' real_path='/Users/Martin/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox' mode=0o40700 uid=501 gid=20 parent mode=0o40755 uid=501 gid=20 sys_executable: '/Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/MacOS/Dropbox' real_path='/Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/MacOS/Dropbox' mode=0o100755 uid=501 gid=20 parent mode=0o40755 uid=501 gid=20 trace.__file__: '/Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/Resources/python-packages.zip/dropbox/client/ui/common/boot_error.pyc' real_path='/Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/Resources/python-packages.zip/dropbox/client/ui/common/boot_error.pyc' not found parent not found tempdir: '/var/folders/ln/645zkb656hs_j6n40g7l_kr80000gn/T' real_path='/private/var/folders/ln/645zkb656hs_j6n40g7l_kr80000gn/T' mode=0o40700 uid=501 gid=20 parent mode=0o40755 uid=501 gid=20 Traceback (most recent call last): File "dropbox/client/main.pyc", line 803, in wrapper File "dropbox/client/main.pyc", line 6266, in finish_dropbox_boot File "dropbox/client/message_queue.pyc", line 306, in _wrapped File "dropbox/client/main.pyc", line 5793, in _init_components_for_account File "dropbox/client/main.pyc", line 5717, in create_sync_engine File "dropbox/sync_engine_boundary/factory.pyc", line 225, in make_sync_engine File "dropbox/sync_engine/nucleus/classic_client/sync_engine.pyc", line 245, in __init__ File "dropbox/sync_engine/nucleus/classic_client/modern_client/modern_client.pyc", line 322, in __init__ File "dropbox/client/gandalf/legacy.pyc", line 296, in add_on_changed_callback File "dropbox/sync_engine/nucleus/classic_client/modern_client/modern_client.pyc", line 473, in _update_feature_configs File "dropbox/sync_engine/nucleus/classic_client/modern_client/modern_thin_client.pyc", line 286, in UpdateFeatureConfigForFswRules File "dropbox/sync_engine/nucleus/thin_client/fp_client.pyc", line 236, in __getattr__ dropbox.sync_engine.nucleus.thin_client.exceptions.NucleusConnectionTimeoutError: Nucleus clients are not running. Hello. My Mac is running on OS Monterey 12.6. Today, I was cleaning out some of my files and I received the following message from Dropbox: "Couldn't start Dropbox. This is usually because of a permissions error. Sorting your home folder on a network share can also cause an error. Please contact Dropbox support with the following info for help: /var/folders/ld/[sensitive data].txt" The "sensitive data" above is a text file directly linked to my machine, which I don't feel comfortable putting on the internet. I've done complete installs and uninstalls several times. Dropbox was given Full Disk Access in my System Preferences. I don't know what else to do. I can't see any way to access Dropbox support though, outside of the bot. Please help! Thank you.2.9KViews0likes13CommentsDropbox App won't open in macOS Monterey
