Wouldn’t it be amazing if we could customize our Dropbox folders to make them more visually appealing and easier to organize? I think adding more options to personalize folders could make a big difference, and I’d love to hear what others think about this idea! Here are a few features I’d suggest: Folder Colors: Imagine being able to color-code your folders—so much easier to spot what you need at a glance! Custom Icons: A simple icon, like a music note for your playlists or a book for your eBooks, could make folders feel more intuitive. This icon could be applied to the already existing folder image, or replace the folder with just an icon. Upload Your Own Images: Personalize your workspace with photos or unique images as folder covers—practical and fun! These tweaks wouldn’t just look great; they’d make organizing and navigating files so much smoother. Plus, other platforms already offer similar options, and it would be awesome to see Dropbox join in! If you think these features would be helpful, let’s make some noise and get Dropbox to consider them. What are your thoughts? Do you have other ideas for folder customization? Let’s chat in the comments and show the Dropbox team how much we’d love this!3Views0likes0CommentsAdd Folder Sorting by Creation Date
I would like to suggest a feature that could greatly enhance the functionality and usability of Dropbox: the ability to sort folders by their creation date in addition to the existing sorting options. Why This Feature is Needed: 1 Efficient Drive Management: When cleaning out or reorganizing storage, sorting folders by their creation date provides a clear timeline of when content was added, helping users identify older, potentially obsolete folders. 2 Improved File Organization: This feature would allow users to understand the chronological context of their data, which is especially useful for archival purposes. 3 Consistency Across Systems: Many file managers (e.g., Finder on macOS and File Explorer on Windows) already offer this option. Having it in Dropbox ensures a seamless workflow between local and cloud storage. Feature Details: Add "Creation Date" as a sortable column in both the web interface and desktop applications. Ensure folders can be sorted by creation date, just like individual files. Include this option in APIs for developers who work with automated tools or scripts. Potential User Benefits: Faster identification of outdated data, leading to more efficient storage usage. Enhanced organizational tools for power users and businesses managing extensive files and folders. Thank you for considering this request. I believe this feature would add significant value to Dropbox and make it even more indispensable for users like me who rely on it for efficient file management. Please let me know if further details or examples would be helpful.15Views0likes3CommentsWork with multiple folders at the same time on the website
Work with multiple folders at the same time on the web (in one page). For example you can do some tabs. I would like to easely move files between folders. I don't want to go through the entire folder structure every time I move files before I get to the one I want. For example something as new tabbed file explorer in Windows 11.620Views0likes2CommentsMake TAGS editable or deletable from master list, please
Through weeks of tagging thousands of my portrait photos, I've changed my tags to better flow and group by category, but the old tag names are still popping up as options. I would like those gone as options. It would be great to see a master list of tags, and from therebe able to manage (edit, delete) tags from a master list, not just from individual files. Thanks for considering!12KViews48likes24CommentsPrevent members from Moving any folders within team folders.
I've seen a topic like the one I'm writing now suggesting to prevent team members from moving any selected folders. I came here just to emphasis how this feature (Member roles Or Folder restrictions) is VERY important in business and I can tell in short words what happed to the business yesterday when one of the member mistakenly moved one of the HOT working projects to another destination. The project literally paralyzed for around 3 hours after noticing the MOVING action and trying to fix it and not to mention what happened to the team when suddenly they couldn't save their work(Media footage editing) the moment the files disappeared and also the whole team was setting waiting for the synchronization process to finish (first the mistaken moving and next moving back the moved folder to its original path). Wish we can have a specific restriction on selected folders and giving the permission to move to selected member by the admin. Here is a recap for my suggestion suggestion: FOLDER SETTINGS ---------- VIEWING , EDITING, MOVING ON ON OFF USERS PERMESSIONS DELETING, MOVING OFF OFF862Views2likes2CommentsToo many docs, folders not cutting it - need top level Spaces/Notesbooks/Projects (something)
I have lots and lots of notes spanning many many topics. Folders are somewhat helpful for organization, but it would be really nice to have some higher level of separation similar to 'Spaces' in Confluence, or 'Notebooks' in Evernote. Each 'space' could have its own folder hierarchy, but would isolate its contents from all other spaces in the UI. This feature would also open up the possibility of expanding Paper's Templates to collections of documents and folders.5KViews5likes8CommentsTagging files externally while not on the Dropbox site
Dropbox contains a tagging feature, but it only works inside of dropbox. Search a file -> add a tag. I want to be able to tag files outside of Dropbox, and have Dropbox read my tags from the file! I personally only need to know what the Dropbox code would be looking at, and I'll program the tagging part of the file myself, for myself. But if Dropbox decides to implement the full thing, that'd be awesome as well. For example: when I select a folder for upload on my phone, it'd be nice to tag all files in that folder with something specific, so it doesn't become one big pile of rubbish when I auto sort it into another folder using dropbox automations. A solid example: My phone contains a camera album, and a whatsapp album. I upload both automatically so they end up in 'camera uploads'. Once they've been uploaded, they get automatically split into folders by year. But now I've got a folder '2024' with all my family pics, mixed with the crazy **** my friends sent me. I'd like to automatically split those files into a sub-folder of 2024.427Views0likes2Comments
