Shared Folders
504 TopicsTwo people icon on a folder that is not shared
Hi everyone, I need some help clarifying an issue with a folder on my Dropbox account. Here’s the situation: I have a root folder that I haven’t shared with anyone, and when I check the sharing and access settings, it confirms that I’m the only person with access. Specifically: Under “Manage Access” and “Share,” it says, “Only me.” There are no shared links created for the folder. The folder settings are configured so that only I, as the owner, can add members or change link settings. However, the folder icon still shows the two silhouettes of people (the shared folder icon), even though I’ve removed all access. The subfolders within this root folder are shared and appropriately display the shared folder icon, but the root folder shouldn’t be shared with anyone. I’m wondering if this is: A glitch with the folder icon, or A setting I might have overlooked that’s causing it to show as shared. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there something specific I should check to ensure the root folder isn’t unintentionally shared? Thanks in advance for your help!44Views0likes7CommentsWas added to a shared folder but can't upload files because I have a Basic account
I was added to a shared folder to upload footage to, so I created an account to gain access, but when uploading it says that I am on a basic plan and capped at 2GB. My client has upgraded the plan, but mine says I am still on basic, do I have to upgrade my own plan to upload to his folder?32Views0likes3CommentsChoose location for folders shared with me?
When files or folders are shared with me, they are automatically placed in the default shared location. However, for organizational purposes and to maintain consistency within my existing project directories, it would be highly beneficial to have the ability to specify the location where shared folders are stored. This functionality would allow me to directly nest shared folders within the relevant project directories, streamlining my workflow and ensuring all related files are easily accessible in one place.32Views0likes5CommentsIssue when trying to share and unshare folders
Hi. I am handing down my old laptop to my son. For that purpose, I want to 'unshare' one of my personal folders that is on it, and share his own folder on it. I can't seem to do it properly. Would appreciate a walk through. ( I tried sharing, and then approving on his email, but I don't see his folder and get a message that he is out of space. even though I have an upgraded account).15Views0likes1CommentFamily Room - cannot customize sharing settings
Hi, I have a family plan and I'm the admin. That plan makes available to every member a shared folder "Archivio Famiglia" that stands for "Family Room" I guess. My need is to setup customized credentials to my family members, for instance, I want to give view or edit access to specific folder only. Looking at the documentation Dropbox states that it's possible to set credentials in every sub-folder.. but I don't see (from web UI) any option in menu.32Views0likes5CommentsFolder in "shared" that is not shared
In left-side menu I go to "shared" where I can see all my shared file/folder. In there I see a folder that has not active shared option (link or user). Maybe it had previously, but not today. So whay I still have this folder in the "shared" section of my account? If I click on the 3-dots menu I see "remove from Dropbox" and nothing like "remove from Sharing". I dont undestand the logic behind this. Could you advise please?Solved23Views0likes3CommentsHow can I track the messages on shared folders and transfers?
Hello Dropbox Community I often share folders with my clients with notes Just realized today that my main client cannot read the sent notes I'm also looking where I can find the sent notes. When I search the shared and transfer tabs I find very random file sharing. For example since August 31 I shared at least 10 files but only 3 old folders show, same with the tranfers I sent at least 10 files to be reviewd with comments but only 3 show and I cannot find my comment anywhere290Views0likes4CommentsUX feedback about "Join Folder" button when clicking on a shared link
As I share links (created via OS folder view) to customers, i have had several of them clicking "Join Folder" as they think that is the priority way of dealing with the link they received. My purpose has been to share a link that multiple users can access - if I have the need to give full read/write access to a user (aka "join folder") - I would give that permission in the first place. This leads to two questions: 1) Why is the "Join Folder" -button so highlighted when user enters via normal link, instead of it being either "copy to dropbox" or "download"? (buttons shown to users could be filtered based on the link user uses to access the folder). 2) Would the "Join Folder" button be even needed IF the link shared is created with a method "who ever has this link can read the files and copy them"? This leads to a conclusion, that maybe Dropbox should filter the buttons out based on the link user uses to access the folder. Why this error happens on a user: To me understanding, it happens because a) the button is highlighted blue and they just click it by heart without reading what the buttons actually state, or 2) they do not understand what "join folder" means - as it really does not indicate in any way, that user is actually requesting full read/write access to a folder, 3) or both reasons -> they do not understand the button text and believe it is the right one as it is highlighted. If the button must exist, I would 1) change the button order and put it to be the last option, 2) rename it to (something like): - Request Ownership - Full Access - Authorize Now it just reminds too much of "joining the folder to see the files".2.1KViews2likes13Comments
