Sync

Title, but, more context: I have files selective synced on my desktop and set to available in offline mode. On the website, suppose I move a Folder A into Folder B, when folder A was one of the synced folders on my desktop. What happens to folder A as it relates to the syncing on my desktop? Will I suddenly and automatically see Folder B also become available on my hard drive since folder A is now a part of it (ie it is now a nested folder and would need to see folder B to access folder A)? Hope this makes sense. I just don't want to radically mess up synced folders by moving them around on the site.Do files sync to a computer after getting deleted?
Here is the reason I ask: I have about 10k files in my Dropbox (on web). I am currently syncing with a computer (on desktop), but it says the status is downloading about 800k files. My only guess, is it is some how syncing deleted files as well? Or is it something else, or is my guess correct? I would like a solution to this, because obviously it takes a long time to sync 800k files.25Views0likes4CommentsA certain icon overlay doesn't work in Windows
I have been working to resolve issues regarding icon overlays. After reading a lot of posts on this forum, I figured out how to edit my registry and move Dropbox overlays to the top of the list, giving them priority. This worked - with one odd exception. The icon for mixed state files won't display no matter what I do. According to this link, that should be DropboxExt09. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Shell_Icon_Overlay_Identifiers) I realize this is a minor issue. But having spent a lot of time on the general issue, I am hoping someone can help me fix this one quirk. Thanks ...Solved5.6KViews1like10CommentsMoving files from Dropbox back onto PC
Hi everyone. I wish there was a phone number to call for this but oh well. So my issue is, is that many files that were associated with my Student DropBox account became inaccessible on my PC. I downloaded all the files that are stored on my account (resulting in copies of the original files) and the moved the files from the Dropbox folder on my PC to their original places on my PC (in My Documents). The files that I moved from Dropbox back to My Documents are able to be opened now. However, the "original" files that were on the PC still cannot be opened. I wanted to get all the files from Dropbox back onto my computer, and then delete my account. After moving all the files from the Dropbox folder on my PC to My Documents under "This PC", am I okay to delete Dropbox, or is there more I need to do? Screenshots attached for clarity. Here is a screenshot of the Dropbox folder. Here are the original files under "My Documents". The other "My Documents" folder is what I downloaded from Dropbox. The original files have Xs on them and they can't be opened. Here are the folders and files I moved from the Dropbox folder to "My Documents". These ones are available. Should I delete the original files that are now inaccessible?3.2KViews0likes12CommentsDropbox syncing after computer restart from Time Machine backup: Will I end up with duplicate files?
I had to restart my computer from a Time Machine backup and am trying to re-sync my Dropbox files. This is especially important because the backup was recorded 4 days before the computer issue and I had done quite a bit of work after that point that Dropbox saved. When reconnecting Dropbox back up I selected "Online Only", but now I'm worried because before the computer scrub I had the files "Available Offline". I'm not sure how many files I actually have on Dropbox (I see that it's indexing 27,770 files) but I'm worried this number includes dupliucates. Suggestions? Also, the indexing is going PAINFULLY slow. At this point it has been more than 20 hours and it's like watching paint dry.205Views0likes2CommentsMissing folders/files on the site, but still visible and accessible on the iOS mobile app, why?
Hi, some of my folders, including the files in them are missing from the web view. On my iphone I still have everything, but not on the web, via a browser. There were no changes on these files/folders, they are also not synced anywhere locally, and the deleted folder is empty as well. Files/folders are still accessible on my phone via the app, but they do not show up on web. How is this possible?126Views0likes1CommentThe Dropbox folder has been overwritten by mistake.
I managed to overwrite the single Dropbox file folder I had on my computer. When prompted to rename or put in another folder, I clicked the rename. Now the DB folder on my computer is empty (replaced by a newly named DB folder that is of course empty), and I have the newly empty folder on the DB cloud so I have nothing to restore. And I cannot seem to find a person at DB to explain all this to. Any suggestions? I have read posts on how to free up space on my local physical (NVME) drive containing the DropBox folder but leave them in the DropBox cloud which is what I want to do on some Dropbox linked PC's that have smaller 2 TB drives, but leave them synced and residing on PC's with larger 4TB drives. (I always move the DropBox folder from the OS/Windows C:\ partition User folder and set it up on another partition named DropBox (or drive) so system backups are not so big and don't take so long as they do not contain the DropBox local files.) Selective un-syncing in Desktop DropBox program (in Preferences/Sync/Selective Sync/Modify is not working for me. De-selecting a folder does not delete the de-selected folder in the local physical folder. nor in the system/virtual on that PC. What am I doing wrong? Can't I just de-select a folder in the Desktop program "Modify Syncing" box and then go to the physical drive and delete the same folder? If I do that it will no longer sync and so will not tell the cloud to delete it (as I want it to remain in the cloud for other PC's) and it will be gone and the space freed up on the local physical drive and not re-filled up as that particular PC is no longer setup to sync that folder and re-populate it.274Views0likes3CommentsSaved documents and edits I made on the desktop app disappeared
Hi Two days ago I created 8 new documents and saved them in a specific folder. I saw them there, as I even counted them at the end of my work session to track my progress. I was working in the desktop version of Dropbox. Now they are not there! They are also not in deleted files for me to restore, so I'm lost! What could have happened to them - please help! In addition, some of the edits I made to existing documents are not there. There is absolutely no record of my 4-hour work session - version history shows last working date as two weeks ago. Obviously I'm distraught and need some answers and advice. Thank you, JL212Views0likes1Comment
