You might see that the Dropbox Community team have been busy working on some major updates to the Community itself! So, here is some info on what’s changed, what’s staying the same and what you can expect from the Dropbox Community overall.
Sync
221 TopicsOption to snooze the syncing process at a specific time/date
There are obviously pre-drobox folder ways of ensuring syncing only occurs at times of idle or a set delay from real time etc but just thought id put it out there that in my view, this would/should be a good feature and i don't really think it's that advanced either. The average user can understand this. specify a couple idle times, min wake up time etc. would be fine. There are many programs where working 'live' is not a good idea, database type programs, programs with lock.4d files, cad based programs where other files are referenced into other files, or even just in explorer/finder when you go to copy and do a big rename - you don't want it syncing in these situations. anyway, just putting it out there.224Views0likes4CommentsOption to create or edit plain Text or Markdown documents
I would have thought that the ability to create/edit plain text (*.txt) documents is extremely basic, and something that would be very useful for note taking, documenting the content of a folder and many more things. However this seems to be not supperted either in the Android or the Web app. Something that has become a standard on many cloud-based sites is to also support Markdown documents (*.md) which are like text documents but can be viewed in a formatted nice way. This is also not supported but would be extremely useful to have in the Android and Web apps.1KViews5likes3CommentsAdd .dropboxignore directory to exclude folders without using selective sync
Please please please can you add a feature that allows folders to be excluded from the Dropbox account (on windows and mac). For sure I'm not the first person to request this, but I'm yet to find a good explanation of why it's not there. A quick google search reveals loads of people also looking for the same feature. I really like the workflow I have with dropbox, but it's getting to the point where I might switch providers in order to allow better selective sync. I've seen hackish solutions using selective sync, but it would be great if this could be done in one of the following ways: - global pattern matching eg "node_modules" - a marker file in the directory like .dropboxignore - a simple right click context menu "Ignore this folder" Other than that, keep up the good work. Cheers. Tom608KViews1382likes1009CommentsPause sync until EOD in the app.
Please, an option to pause file sync until the end of the work day (5pm, 6pm, etc) would be amazing. This would help free up bandwidth during working hours and ensure that files are synced and ready to go the following morning. Gratefully, -Ralph200Views0likes3CommentsPlease allow pairing of more than two accounts.
Please allow pairing of more than two accounts. As a contractor, I am a member of a company's business account, a team member of another company, and have my personal account. It is frustrating to only be able to pair two of them, so that when I need to access the third, I have to completely sign out of the others and sign in fresh for the third.17KViews40likes84CommentsPause syncing when an app is open (so I don't have Dropbox messing with a synced scratch folder)
I'd love if I could have dropbox pause syncing when a specified app is running. Oftentimes I have a program writing to/reading from a bunch of files over the course of an hour or two, and when it tries to access a file that Dropbox is currently syncing, the program bugs out and aborts whatever it's trying to do. I do want these files synced after I'm done working on them. I just want Dropbox to recognize that they might be accessed soon and to hold off on syncing them until it's safe. Bonus points if Dropbox could pause syncing on a specified directory when it notices that a program is open rather than pausing all syncing. But I could live without that if needed. I realize I can manually pause syncing, but sometimes I forget or the program takes longer than I paused for and dropbox starts syncing midway through.351Views2likes2Comments
