Please please please can you add a feature that allows folders to be excluded from the Dropbox account (on windows and mac). For sure I'm not the first person to request this, but I'm yet to find a good explanation of why it's not there. A quick google search reveals loads of people also looking for the same feature. I really like the workflow I have with dropbox, but it's getting to the point where I might switch providers in order to allow better selective sync. I've seen hackish solutions using selective sync, but it would be great if this could be done in one of the following ways: - global pattern matching eg "node_modules" - a marker file in the directory like .dropboxignore - a simple right click context menu "Ignore this folder" Other than that, keep up the good work. Cheers. Tom610KViews1384likes1011CommentsRequest for Dark Mode for the Website and the Desktop (including Paper)
I nearly go blind every time I open dropbox, how can you guys have been around so long yet you still don't have a simple toggle to change the CSS style to a darker color to not blind your users? Seriously. Can we please get a night mode?93KViews306likes201CommentsCan we have more folder options like custom folders or sub-folders to add to Computer Backup?
Right now, the automated backup option in Dropbox allows me to sync my Documents, Desktop and Downloads folders. By far the biggest - and most important - folder on my computer is the Music folder though. I can imagine for other people it's Pictures. Could we have a way to automatically backup those folders too? To be really ambitious: would we be able to clone our computer on Dropbox? I used to have an Apple Time Machine that allowed you to do just that. If your computer broke down or was stolen, you could buy a new one, let it download the clone, including not just your documents but your applications and presets too, and you'd be good to go! Please let Dropbox be the new Time Machine.74KViews239likes159CommentsSync dropbox across multiple locations/hard drives
I have a larger dropbox account than my primary hard drive. It would be great if dropbox could support virtual links to files outside of it's default location, without those files having to also be in the main dropbox folder. I am aware of shortcuts/aliases on windows/OSX, but those don't solve the problem if my primary drive has limited space. This is one workaround, but native support through the Dropbox client would be ideal: http://bobmckay.com/software/split-dropbox-across-multiple-drives63KViews93likes109CommentsCan we have the Command Line Interface for Windows/Mac?
Even though, there is a command line interface on linux (which has start, stop and, soon, pause options), there seems to be no equivalent feature on windows nor on mac. This feature should be easily transferable. I see no technical reasons why this cannot be possible (especially to mac), is there any?42KViews87likes43CommentsBe able to change Dropbox backup folders names
Add possibility of rename Backup folders. If you have only one computer, it go fine, but if you have more than one, it ends being very confussing. Due iCloud Drive issues, I've changed all of my Macs "synchronized" Desktop and Documents to Dropbox. However, take a look to the picture: It is very difficult to guess what is what. With the possibility to rename them, I could have named "My iMac", "My MBP 13", "My MBP 15". Very easy to see what is what. (As a workaround, we can change to detail view, but could be more easy for all of us be able to change the names).21KViews82likes83CommentsWindows 10 use a column in File Explorer (file property) for icons instead of overlay
Dropbox uses icon file overlay to show file sync status in File Explorer in Windows 10. Windows has a limit of just 15 overlay icons and different applications pushother appliations out of the top 15 slots - this is often why some Windows users have missing overlay. OneDrive has moved to using a separate column in File Explorer as shown in the following example. This also means you can order by status. It would be great if Dropbox could adopt a similar solution. Thanks! Skov12KViews43likes11Commentskeyboard shortcuts for smart sync
One of the things that would really be useful to me was if I could create 2 keyboard shortcuts for toggling Smart Sync on my Mac. Right now, to bring files locally or move them online only, you have to select the files, right click, and then go to Smart Sync > Local / Online Only. This is not a hard thing to do clearly, but I find myself frequently toggling this, and it would be so much easier if I could just select a group of files and enter a shortcut to bring those files locally or put them online only. I've followed instructions online to create custom shortcuts before, but I don't know how to do it for something like this, if it is even possible. Thank you in advance!16KViews41likes17Comments
