In case anyone's unaware... if you're a Mac user storing your Dropbox on an external drive, you'll shortly lose that ability. https://talk.tidbits.com/t/dropbox-drops-support-for-storing-files-on-an-external-drive-and-onedrive-retains-it/20797/16 https://help.dropbox.com/installs/macos-support-for-expected-changes Just confirmed this with DB support (see below). Gutted - been with Dropbox for years and our entire video team flow is based around it 😕 >Hi there, I read today that you are scrapping the ability to store the Dropbox folder on external disks, on OSX. I'd like to ask more about this please. > Hello Jon, and thank you for contacting Dropbox Support. My name is Joseph, and I will be more than happy to look into your request, right away. That is correct Jon, as part of the Dropbox for macOS update, the Dropbox folder must be located in ~/Library/CloudStorage. >This is a showstopper for us, and will mean we have to move to another service. We have a large distributed team using DB for video work, no way it'll fit within internal drives. Is there a workaround? >I totally understand and I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, there is no workaround on this as changing the location of your Dropbox folder is no longer supported by macOS. >This change doesn't seem to have hit us yet - we're running a variety of machines inc Ventura What will trigger its enforcement? Can we stay on an earlier OS or Dropbox version? >The updates happening automatically every time the Dropbox app is restarting, for example if your device never restarts it should maintain the older version but we can't guarantee full functionality on older versions of the application. >So what will happen - if we have a Dropbox folder on an 8TB drive and a tiny internal drive - will it try to clone stuff across and eat up the space? What's the mechanism? >That's right, it will try to move the content on your internal drive until it has no space and gives you an error. >Is Smartsync still supported?I.e. will it move stuff to being online only if it won't fit? >It is, however it is now known as online-only.Solved102KViews25likes697CommentsLocal hard drive size does not change after moving 160Gb folders online only
Macbook Pro 16" M4 Max 64Gb/4Tb, Mac OS Sequoia 15.1 I have made 160Gb total size folders online only to free up disk space, Dropbox sync shows "your files are up to date", folder sizes have instantly gone down to zero or close to zero on Mac finder but total disk space has not changed a bit. Any idea? I must say I've had quite many syncing problems with the Dropbox lately and am a bit concerned about its reliability.58Views0likes12CommentsThe Dropbox app on Mac OS can't sync as it's saying my hard drive is full, when it isn't
I'm currently unable to sync several video files (approx 120GB) locally due to dropbox thinking it has no space, even though I see over 800GB of available space on my drive. I'm on a teams account and have tried to show hidden files to find my dropbox cache file but haven't been able to find it to determine if that's why dropbox is confused. See attached screenshots for reference and system info. I need to sync large size files due to my work as a video editor and this is a serious impediment to my workflow at the moment so any support would be greatly appreciated. I'm migrating from an iMac with Mojave to a mini with Sequoia. Time machine run well and installed everything smoothly (of course I have to update some of the apps to the new OS). It looks like Sequoia is not allowing creating folders inside Macintosh hd, so my folders's structure has to be reorganized. There's an issue limiting my flexibility in managing the situation: my dropbox folder is taking up space in Macintosh HD > Users > My Name > Dropbox Any advice? Thank you!16Views0likes1CommentThe extra storage space from the upgrade isn't showing on my desktop app.
So I upgraded my account from 2TB to 3TB. And in the website it shows I have 3TB, yet on the desktop app when I click on 'manage hard drive space' it shows 2TB. Any idea if / when this will update or is there something I need to do? Thanks in advance!Solved41Views0likes2CommentsDropbox online-only consuming hard drive space on Windows
I set my Dropbox and folders to online only but it is still taking up the majority of my hard drive. The files are (also?) located on my c drive: C:\Users\JaneDoe\Dropbox. If I delete a folder from the C drive it deletes it everywhere. I'm not sure how to fix this as I have never had this problem before.Solved209Views0likes3CommentsDropbox uses a ton of hard drive space despite most files being online only
So, I've put ALL my files on online-only because my Mac was running out of space. In my Mac settings, Dropbox takes up 108 GB currently. Once I actually look at what folders are taking up space it's less than 2 GB (you can see in the screenshot what I mean). What is taking up all this space?Solved14KViews3likes51CommentsMy Dropbox folder is taking up a lot of space on my computer
Hello: Shortly after I got a new computer, I keep getting messages that my hard drive is full. so when I check the storage it is my Dropbox folder using all the space: and when I go to the website, I have 2T space available: So, my 2 questions are: I obviously do NOT need 2T space, so can I change my subscription to give me less space? How can I remove the Dropbox folder off my hard drive and only use the website? I changed the setting to "available online only" but I do not really know exactly what that means. I did not seem to change the space - maybe I have to restart the computer? Thanks, smblock255Views0likes1CommentMy hard drive is full even though I've set my folder to be online-only
Agreed to the new Mac Folders and the sync tells me my hard drive is full and I have all of my folders set for Make online only. Everything shows clouds but when I check my hard driveutility it says all space is taken and normally half my drive is clear. I clearedcache but no help. This is the second time a full sync like this has happened in 2 days.Solved613Views0likes16Comments
