Using Dropbox v224.4.4811, I updated so that I am now using File Provider. Things work as expected (I think), in that the files are now in ~/Library/CloudStorage/Dropbox. I always default to files being available offline. After letting everything finish changing over, and then restarting my computer as well as the Dropbox app my problem is this: I can visually verify that individual files are indeed on my drive, and the individual files show the green checkmark icon. But EVERY folder on my Dropbox shows the cloud-with-arrow "Not Downloaded" icon. And when I hover over it, a popup says "Not Downloaded." Even though everything inside IS downloaded. If I click on the icon, nothing happens. When I use the contextual menu to select "make available offline," nothing happens. This is because the files inside are indeed offline and local. A search indicates that this might be a "visual bug." But I'm here to say that if it is, this needs to be resolved pronto. I've used Dropbox for over a decade because I never had to worry about whether something was where I thin kit is, and now I have to dig into a folder hierarchy just to be absolutely sure something is local. Any ideas on how to fix this? If I ultiamtely have to take on a new cognitive load make sure my files are where I need them to keep using Dropbox, I'll just use something else.34Views0likes2CommentsHow can I disable the status column on Windows?
Dear Madam/Sir, I have a paid subscription of Dropbox and as a professional writer I use mainly Explorer and Microsoft Office with hundreds of different files and documents. I am orientated to the name of my files and documents, and therefore I don't want to see any other information, as it is very distracting and useless (for me) as well. Therefore, I choose in Explorer and Office for 'List View'. Since the latest Dropbox-update, however, a "status column" drops up and I cannot get rid of it. Please make it possible to disable this column or tell me where in the registry of Windows 10 I can change this setting permanently. Thank you very much in advance, Alfred van CleefSolved247Views1like8CommentsCan I use the Dropbox desktop app on Linux without AppIndicator?
I'm using dropbox desktop on archlinux without desktop environment. I'm using a window manager directly (in specific, awesomeWM). Recently when I start the dropbox desktop, it has a popup message saying I new version of dropbox will not work without AppIndicator, and it said my current environment doesn't support it. And I will not work after May 27. In fact I've already installed libappindicator-gtk2 and libappindicator-gtk3. I've two questions: How can I make it detect and use the installed AppIndicator? Can I stay with the current version of desktop desktop, even after May 27?348Views0likes11CommentsDropbox needs to update the required Fedora repository.
Apologies if this is the wrong place to post this. This is just a heads up that Fedora Linux was updated earlier this week to 42 and so the Dropbox Fedora repository is now producing error messages as it's still pointing to 41. The repository is at https://linux.dropbox.com/fedora.704Views5likes27CommentsDropbox desktop app causes an "Event 3033" at every startup on my Windows computer
I see Microsoft Windows Event 3033 created at every startup of Dropbox version 224.4.4811. Code Integrity determined that a process (\Device\HarddiskVolume4\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Client\Dropbox.exe) attempted to load \Device\HarddiskVolume4\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Client\224.4.4811\vulkan-1.dll that did not meet the Microsoft signing level requirements. Please explain what the vukan-1.dll is, and ask your developers why it is not meeting the Microsoft Signing level requirements.109Views0likes10CommentsApache can't open files in Dropbox anymore
Hi, I am using an Apache 2.4.41 server which DOCSROOT directory is in a Dropbox drive. It's been always working fine until 2025-05-01, when my Dropbox client asked me for an update. I consent and immediatelly the Apache server stopped working. It seems it cannot open the files the way it did. If I move the web files out of the Dropbox drive (and I configure Apache to use the new location, of course) it works again. The error I'm getting is this one: Warning: Unknown: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0 Fatal error: Unknown: Failed opening required 'E:/Dropbox/Web/index.html' (include_path='.;C:\php\pear') in Unknown on line 0 Any way to fix it or workaround it? Thanks.Solved306Views0likes24CommentsViewing files locally is incredibly slow since the February/March 25 update.
Windows 11. Desktop app. Dropbox Plus Prior to the February/March 25 update, my files (any type of file, but mostly PDF's and JPG's) would open either instantly or within a few seconds. After the February/March 25 update, opening a file results in the spinning wheel of death and takes 20-30 seconds to open. If I quit the Dropbox app the problem is fixed and the files load instantly again. It's almost as if Dropbox is either force downloading these files from the cloud before opening them locally, or the Dropbox app is hanging for whatever reason. I have not changed any settings between updates and my preferences are set to Sync > "Available Offline" and unchecked "Save hard drive space automatically" This has absolutely killed my productivity as I reference these creative files regularly and having to wait 20-30 seconds per file opening makes Dropbox unusable in its present state. Has anyone else experienced incredibly slow file opening since the February/March update and is anyone aware of a fix on the horizon?222Views2likes10CommentsThe context menu options are missing from my macOS Sequoia 15.4.1, even though the app's syncing.
After setting up a new MacBook Air M3 running macOS Sequoia 15.4.1, the Dropbox Finder contextual menu items (like “Share Dropbox Link”, “View on Dropbox.com”, etc.) are missing — even though Dropbox is syncing files properly. Dropbox version: 223.4.4909 Steps to Reproduce: Install Dropbox from the official site (.dmg) Log in and allow sync (files sync correctly) Right-click on a file or folder within Dropbox in Finder Expected Behavior: Dropbox contextual menu options should appear (like “Share link”, “View on Dropbox.com”, etc.) Actual Behavior: No Dropbox-specific options are visible in Finder’s context menu My System Details: Device: MacBook Air (13", M3, 2024) OS: macOS Sequoia 15.4.1 Dropbox Version: 223.4.4909 Troubleshooting Steps I’ve Taken: Rebooted the Mac Relaunched Finder (killall Finder) Verified Dropbox is enabled in: System Settings → Extensions → File Provider Manually removed Dropbox config and helper tools: rm -rf ~/Dropbox ~/.dropbox ~/.dropbox-master ~/Library/DropboxHelperTools sudo rm -rf /Library/DropboxHelperTools Used pluginkit to inspect and re-enable plugins: sudo pluginkit -r -i com.getdropbox.dropbox.garcon sudo pluginkit -a /Applications/Dropbox.app sudo pluginkit -e use -i com.getdropbox.dropbox.garcon Confirmed garcon.appex exists at: /Applications/Dropbox.app/Contents/PlugIns/ Checked that Finder Extensions does not list Dropbox in System Settings. Plugin status shows: - com.getdropbox.dropbox.garcon + com.getdropbox.dropbox.TransferExtension com.getdropbox.dropbox.fileprovider Tried running DropboxHelper manually – it doesn't exist at the expected location Reinstalled Dropbox from scratch multiple times Additional Notes: I’m aware Dropbox offers the option to enable File Provider mode, but I’m hesitant to enable this as it may restructure folders and break automation scripts and workflows. Asks: Is this a known bug on macOS Sequoia? Should com.getdropbox.dropbox.garcon work on Sequoia, and if so, how can I properly re-enable it? Is File Provider mode now required for Finder integration? Support Ticket: #25075631 Thanks!102Views0likes8CommentsDropbox says my environment doesn't support tray icon, by it does
In the following image you can see the dropbox system tray icon top right, with the error message below it. I am using the `i3wm` on Ubuntu with `i3status` to show the icons. To me this is a bug in the dropbox software failing to detect the presence of app indicator support correctlty, on argueabley the most common custom window manager.1.1KViews2likes16CommentsHow to enable Dropbox desktop notifications on MacBook Air?
When I save files on Dropbox, the icon in the menu bar on the MacBook does show that there is activity. I do have Settings>Allow Notifications for Dropbox enabled to show 'Alerts'. The problem is that I would like to see the larger 'Alerts' on Mac displayed but I'm only getting the small icon on the menu bar activity alert. Please can someone advise me?
