My files sync as online-only, but I need to make them available offline. How do I do this?
I keep virtually all my files on drop box so I have them continuously backed up. I have about 700gb of data used for this. I just bought a new computer with windows 11 and after getting drop box up and running it appeared that all my stuff was synced up. I thought it was going to take several house to copy over that much data but it only took about 20 minutes.
Now I am discovering that many of my file are actually "off line" and when I open them I have a lag waiting for the file to come over the internet. I often have a need to use my computer when there is no internet connection and I must have all my file available on my C drive.
How can I get all my files onto my c drive? Is this something that is actually happening in the background and I am just not seeing it? (I only got it working yesterday)

Thanks to ChatGPT I was able to resolve the problem. I love ChatGPT. All my files are coming over now. 131,713 files which will take about 4.5 hours.

How did you resolve this?

Hey shawntripet - sorry to jump in here, but I'd imagine that this Help Center article would help with this.

I have been using it many years. I store the drop box folder on the top level of my C drive and I put everything into drop box, even, when possible, executable programs. When I had two homes and 3 computers, counting my laptop, it was beautiful how it seamlessly syncing everything on each computer. And what a really like is that all my files are actually stored on my hard drive so when I am unconnected from the internet I still easily function.
Plus there have been a few times when I needed to find an earlier version of a file and drop box has helped me with that.
I have one question for you.... if I was unlucky enough to get hacked with ransomware and all my files got encrypted would drop box blindly sync up the encrypted files? And if so is it safe to assume that I could recover by downloaded earlier un encrypted versions after buying a new computer?

Hey tomd1944, I'd be happy to answer that for you! 😀
On the unfortunate chance that your account was hit by ransomware, your files would probably sync from the account to your connected devices, and vice versa.
However, you should be able to recover your content to an earlier version. That depends on the type of encryption, and what action has taken place on the account of course.
You can read more about this here, and if you have any questions, I'm one post away.
