How can a stranger request access to a file in my dropbox without any previous contact from me?
I have received a file request from a stranger that I have had no previous contact from, and that I have not shared any files or links with. I do not know how someone can do this?

Hi milledlinseed, thanks for joining the Community!
Is this a request to access a shared file or a shared folder?
Generally, this happens when someone who you've shared an item to forwarded the invite email to someone else to join or view the file, or they open the link using another Dropbox account instead of the invited one.
If you need any more details, feel free to message back!

Hello,
Experienced the same a couple of times recently, could be a phishing scam. Very confused how a complete stranger can find out the dropbox and request access.
What is the recommended course of action to prevent this from happening?
Best regards,
CustomerGZ1
- Walter3 years agoDropbox StaffHey CustomerGZ1, sorry to jump in here, but could you share some additional information about the issue you've noticed?
For example, are these requests for shared files or folders you've stored in your Dropbox account or something else?
Are those requests coming from an official domain from the ones mentioned here?
Any additional information is more than welcome!- DMIND0010 months agoExplorer | Level 4
This is the frist time I have posted comments here. We rarely share a dropbox file with individuals from companies we do business with and this is a business dropbox account. It concerns me as I have had the same request from strangers. Their email addresses have a strange company name or personal emial address. I am showing these names and email addresses as maybe other Dropbox users have gotten email Dropbox requests from them as well. First it was [removed] on September 26, then [removed] September 28 and a Recently from [removed] January 12 I have searched my emails and never had contact with this person. It seems like dropbox should require a person to state the company name they are from. I do not recognize any of the names. To me it comes across that these ore requests trying to get into our company Dropbox. to see if they can get information or cause malicious issues with your files. such as corrupting the files. This is the dropbox emial it came from - no-reply@dropbox.com. This particular persons name is [removed].
[removed] just asked to join the BLA,Inc Dropbox team. After you approve their request, you can add them to groups and folders so they have access to the right files. Approve request

The request I received were people we never ever did work with so they should not even know us. This was my concern. I am so skeptical now days I do not trust anyone on the web for requests. I have not had any more of these strange requests for access.
