New sync icons - red exclamation point and arrows in a circle
I recently removed several folders from my Selective Sync, and then decided to add them back in. However, after they finished restoring, I now have two new icons that have shown up on some files, a r...
- 4 years agoHey wshane, I hope you're doing well!
You can find out more with regards to the Dropbox syncing icons here.
However, as you mentioned, these look different than the red X. Can I ask what your syncing status is?
If I were you, I'd try to reboot my device as well.
Also, if you move a file outside of your Dropbox folder, does the red exclamation mark remain?

Hi wshane
Thanks for image - really helps!
Circle = syncing - either to or from your machine
! = error.
However, if you've done lots of changes they could be a tad mixed up. Try a refresh (i.e. close and reopen Dropbox) and see what happens.

Hmm. I see how the arrows look like a sync symbol, but you can see in the status bar that Dropbox says everything is synced. And the exclamation certainly looks like an error, but the files are totally fine when viewed both on the computer and via the website. Also, the error symbol used to be a red x and I can't find anywhere online that says that's changed. You could be right, though - do you have a link to any info on the symbols?

Part of the issue may be the inclusion of the ! in your folder names as this is an illegal character on Dropbox 🙂

Ah-ha! I think you may have hit on it! The icons DO remain when the files are moved outside of Dropbox! So they're not related to Dropbox at all, but to some other app. It's so simple that I probably never would have thought of it. 😉
Thanks for the help!
