Question about ideas thread duration policy.
Hello,
This is a question for Dropbox staff. I've noticed that recent ideas threads are being closed by Dropbox staff after exactly one month, citing "inactivity" as the reason. I'm curious to understand the rationale behind this practice.
Given that ideas currently face visibility challenges on the platform, a one-month window may not provide sufficient time for community engagement. Additionally, I'm wondering about the necessity of closing these threads at all, since they don't appear to consume additional system resources.
Thanks,
Andrew (DBoxTips)

Hi DBoxTips
Thanks for reaching out about this. There are a number of reasons why we close ideas, but we do update our processes if needs be.
We close ideas due to inactivity if they don't have sufficient engagement as we can't dedicate resources to scoping every idea. We generally give ideas 6 months to gather sufficient support. We do close some ideas after 1 month, but only if they receive no user support (no votes) in that time. However, we are happy to give ideas a second life if they are reposted and users show renewed support, but as leaving ideas on the Community that have no user support clutters the Community and lowers visibility of ideas receiving active user engagement.
You’re right that ideas don't take system resources, but they do require support resources to track and provide updates, and overall make the idea board more cluttered.
I hope that answers your question, and we hope that people understand the process a little more, and if not, we can make things clearer on our side too. Thanks,
Amy and the Community Team
